Steph,
No deadline per se. There's a surcharge if you register a couple of wks prior to the event date (6/4), however.

Simple question... Does anyone have a small helmet I can borrow?.. PLEASE?.. I'd rather spend a couple hundred for a new clutch, than a new helmet... Mahalo!

For those who care. I drive a Silver Sedan 6MT CA license plate "KRZ HAYN" = "Krazy Hawaiian". A "Shaka" is always welcome.

Hey Clint, if you can. Do us a favor.

I know there is a bunch of items we need to get across.
Such as
1. WHat should we do to prepare out cars? Such as oil coolant. pretty much whole deal.
2. What do we need to bring?

You are the seasoned vet here. So let us know.

Im counting down the days and hours. He He I wish i could put like some sort of counter here to see how many days and hours we have left. I used to be able to do it on the BMW forums.

Re: . . . . . . . . Track Event @ 'Big' Willow Springs . . !!! JOIN US !!!

25 more days ! ! !

I'm ready for the action. The final piece of my suspension tweak is finally in place and looking pretty sharp so far. Let's see what she can do come June 4th!

What you should check (do this now and again the nite before):
- Brake Pads (Front and Rear) ... preferrably > 65% left.
- Tire Tread ... above wear bar.
- Brake fluid level
- Clutch fluid level
- Power steering fluid level
- Engine coolant level
- Engine oil level
- In basic good health ... no funny noises, etc.

What to bring? (don't freak if you don't have everything in the list ... use your common sense as only some are essential)
- Tech Sheet (filled out)
- Car Number (if you don't have one ... select one at Speed Venture's website)
- Helmet(s)
- Painter's (Blue) Masking Tape ... for paint protection and to assemble car number.
- Tool set (if you have any)
- Torque Wrench
- Hydraulic Jack and stands (optional, but comes in handy)
- A bottle of Engine Oil, Coolant, brake fluid.
- Windex
- Spare Tire
- Additional set of brake pads (if you have any)
- Driving Gloves (if you have sweaty palms)
- Mechanics Gloves
- Tire Pressure Gauge
- Portable Air pump
- Shop Towels
- Fold-up chairs/Canopy
- Camera Camcorder
- Cell Phone
- Drivers License
- Lots of iced water, soda and juice
- Snack/Fruit/Sack lunches
- Wallet/Money
- Sun Screen !!! (SPF 45+)

Finally, I just want to say ... take it EASY you're first time out. Know you're limits and stay under it until you've got a few events under your belt. There's nothing to prove other than to learn and have tons of FUN doing so Chances are you will be very intimidated as a newb ... some of you may also be surprised at how quickly you settle right in and start get comfortable.

I would also like for you people to develop the habit of checking your brake condition in between sessions. Brake is the Achille's heel for most cars at the track ... espeically non-Brembo equipped Zs and Gs. Ask for advice if you're not sure what to look for. I do recommend upgrading to higher-temp pads (i.e. Hawk HPS or HP+) in general, and a must if you are known to be *heavy* on your brakes.

That's all for now.

It's going to be a wonderful day and event.

Clint,

Tech sheet? When I signed up they diden't ask me for one...will there be one there to fill out?

-Randy

P.S. Can I custom make my number? Or, does it have to be made out of tape? Where on the car does the # have to be? I am # 685, BTW.

What about the # question...where does it have to be located on the car?

No ... from my experience they do not do perform another tech checks there.
The numbers go on the two sides of the car ... big enough to be read from the track side. Many things will become intuitive to you when you get there

Oh btw ... I believe Willow Springs charges a $10 fee to enter the gate. It's been a while since I've gone to Willow Springs, so be sure to carry a few extra bux on u.

Speaking of the number situation

My friend owns a custom sign shop. Makes vinyl graphics etc.. I talked to him today he said he can give us all a deal for making vinyl numbers.

Instead of using the painters tape you can use the vinyl sticker.

Let me know if anybody is willing to do this. I think i might do it.

Clint: Thanks for the check list. Do we have to fill out Tech Inspection Form ourselves or do they do it?

Re: . . . . . . . . Track Event @ 'Big' Willow Springs . . !!! JOIN US !!!

Fellow tracksters for Willow Springs. I have a brand new Bell M3 full face helmet, size 7 1/8 that has only been worn once by my girlfriend when she went around Laguna Seca. I will bring it in case someone needs it. I don't want to sell it, however.
There are write ups about the driving experience for a newbie at Buttonwillow and Sears Point on the www.g-owners.com
website. By the end of this week or latest early next there will be a full video of a complete 9 lap session at Sears Point from the cabin of a G35 coupe (mine), with passing, and being passed and all that good stuff. Includes text overlay to describe what is going on and why at particular points. The camera angle trended a tickle to the left from the g forces in the turns, but CLINT's mounting bar was otherwise really good (thanks for letting me borrow it!!).
This is all about learning, it is very mellow and not at all competitive. You just get out there, use some common sense, and get a totally legal thrill of going fast on straights, but especially fast in corners, and becoming accustomed to skills and experiences that are just not available on the public roadways. It is very much a good experience. This is not to crank out the lowest lap times, but to work on skills and learning. It is fun. Sometimes scary when you learn the limits of a turn for you and your car, but still fun.
