. . . . . . . . Track Event @ 'Big' Willow Springs . . !!! JOIN US !!!
Hey folks,
Eagle1 and I will be tackling 'Big' Willow in a couple of months and we thought some of you may want to join us for the spectacle.
'Big' Willow is the big brother to the smaller and tighter 'Streets' of Willow. Voted one of the best track in the West. It is not particularly technical (great for newbies to learn) but lacks non of the road racing excitements. In many ways, it reminisce the smooth Laguna Seca track that both Eagle1 and I tore through earlier this year. Better yet, Willow Springs' relatively close to home, just an hour drive from LA.
Once again, we will be going through Speed Ventures for this event. Everyone and anyone is welcomed. Beginners, Veterans, G/Z owners, non-G/Z ownersor and even simply spectators (non-drivers).
Here's an aerial shot of the track itself ...

The entire left portion is the 'Big' Willow. 'Streets' of Willow is the maze at the lower right side. We'll be running in the counter-clockwise direction.
Event Date ..... 06/04/2004
Time .............. 7:00am till they kick us out (basically all day)
Location ..........Willow Springs Raceway, Rosamond (next to Palmdale), CA
Cost ................ $120 (FREE to as spectator or to ride w. someone)
Optional:
Instructor ............ $30 (required for 1st-timer)
Timing Device ...... $30 (highly recommended)
Note: Supply own Helmet. Motorcycle helmets are ok too.
... still leery? Don't be. G35s are completely track worthy out of the box (aka stock) ... and that goes for both Coupes, Sedans, ATs and MTs. It'll be Fun Fun Fun, especially for you first-timers! We'll keep you posted for further info. Feel free to ask us any questions here. I've been doing this long enough and Eagle1's fastly becoming a veteran himself
Happy Racing .... vroom vroom!

OK Clint like i said before. Im game for this. My suspension will be on i will have my new potenza S03 tires on. What more can i say.
So we have to bring our own Helmets. Man i think imma need to borrow one.
But im game. One thing. DO they have a gas station there. Just in case you know i get low on gas.
The good thing about this is its pretty close to the SFV (San Fernando Valley)
I also think i might be able to bring some friends. But they are non g owners but still it will be fun.
So put me down for sure.
Also can bikes come too?

Sounds good Sam. My friend was just there a couple of weeks ago w. his race'd out Honda 600RR.
We're still quite a ways from the track day, so I hope to see you there! Eagle1's waiting for your 'Vortech' with his 'ATI' supercharger ... haha
This is one track where BIG horsepower really shows off nicely!

Arash,
Sweet. Those S03 are nice tires. I'd be curious to see how differently your JICs handles compare to my Teins.
See about borrowing a helmet from someone. You could always invest in a relatively inexpensive one too.
Your friends are more than welcomed to participate. In fact, there will be a variety of cars there. Typically you'll see a pack of S2000s, some Z06s, EVO, STi, Porsche as well as Miata and Focus. Sorry, unfortunately cars and bikes don't mix on the track. Your 'biker' friend could come and watch or take ride w. someone.

I'm in but very tentative. I'd love to try and ****** a set of coilovers (JIC again or Cusco) and get them on before track day. Arash, if I don't go, you can borrow my motorcycle helmet. It's DOT and SNELL approve and I think you only need a DOT approved helmet to be on the track.
I'll let you guys know as we near the date.

Ok...I have a motorcylce racing helmet, but I don't have the special tires that you guys have. Will that affect my performance out on the track? One more thing, isnt' the 4th a Friday?

Yes, those racing bike helmets will work just fine. Both DOT and SNELL rating is sufficient for this event. Just don't show up with those 10-spd bicycle helmets w. 10 vent holes on it
And yes, June 4th is on a FRIDAY ... so please plan AHEAD!
Steph, you'll quickly realize lots of club track events are held on 'weekdays', otherwise everyone pay a significant premium for weekends
It's a 1-day event, so start sending those 'day off' requests now or that case of 'pneumonia' may have to hit on that day

Oh ... there's no need for 'special' tire to race your car around the track. It is really no different than yall weekend warriors tearing through the local canyons minus the COPS and 200-foot ravines. It is generally not recommend for first-timers to use (racing) R-compound tires anyhow. Your stockers will do just fine. You will get more 'feel' out of them vs. the R tires.
The Coupe people have a fairly competent rubber stance already right out of the box (225/235 or 225/245). Sedan's are slightly handicapped at 215/215, but they'll also do the job fine. I ran my Sedan *bone-stock* at Button Willow Raceway just 2 months after initial delivery. Those 215s stood up to the abuse 100x better than I expected and the car's handling traits more than exceeded my prospect. I knew then the G was born to be on the track!
Remember, you're out there to have FUN. Ya might also take this opportunity to get acquainted with your car at its limit. See how it behaves in various situations and to learn how to properly react to it in a controlled environment. It could come in handy one day while trying to dodge a run away squirrel on the street.

Clint,
Put me on the list. I'll be on hiatus by then.
Arash,
You need to talk with Rob. He's put together a bunch of vids from recent events.
Zack,
I'm picking you up from where ever you're at and you're going.
See you all there.
-Kawika
P.S.
For those who care. I drive a Silver Sedan 6MT CA license plate "KRZ HAYN" = "Krazy Hawaiian". A "Shaka" is always welcome.
