Re: Labor Day Cruise

old haleiwa town has a variety of places to eat, but might night have enough parking, i guess if we are not going to bbq we should end up or rest at a mall or shopping center like pearlridge or mililani, i wouldn't suggest ala moana.

Re: Labor Day Cruise

I have to agree about the crowdedness of the parks durring labor day weekend. Having a BBQ with a quarter million other people could be difficult. BBQ another time would be excellent though. That being said, I believe I'm coming back from Vegas on the 31st...I forget what time...hopefully I can make it.

Cruise with a stop over to eat at an establishment or cruise and bring your own bento sounds good to me. Just throwing out some ideas.

Re: Labor Day Cruise

If a mall area was to be decided, I would suggest Pearlridge, old JC Penny's side. Nobody parks over there now that they have closed down. Only draw back that I can think of though is, I dont know if we will be able to hang a little (mall security) and if everyone grabs something to eat, where can we go so that we can all be around and yap for the time being? If security doesn't really hasssel us, then that location might be okay.

Haleiwa Town,....might be a little crowded I would think. Considering on the turn out from the last cruise, that was a fair amount of people already. Hopefully and I am assuming here, if the information gets out early enough, the turn out might be larger.

Need to look at the proposed cruise route to help out in this decision. Can anyone get a hold of "cbr600rr" or even "808HerbzG35"? Since they are I believe the ones getting this together, need to consult with them on the particulars that they had in mind. Then the eating place can be determined a hell of a lot easier from there, or if we can come up with a lunch place faster, then the route can pass through that area, either way.

I think that the lunch location just has to be in an area that we can all meet up at and somewhat stay together. As mentioned before, being that people will probably not want to pack food in their cars, an area that has food vendors or a food court might be good, and an area that we can eat at / in. Given the amount of people, we will probably end up eating outside somewhere.

Re: Labor Day Cruise

Just had a thought. Lunch might be good to have at the "end" of the cruise. Gives everyone the time to take our time to talk and get to know all of the other drivers, then that way it gives everyone else the option to kick back with their families as well later on. If we start the cruise around the 10:00 ish hour (everyone knows that means people will come @ 10:30) then break for lunch at 1:30 ish. Lunch could be gotten at Millilani Town Center,..then one with the theaters,...then meet at the Oahu Central Park to eat.

Thoughts???

Re: Labor Day Cruise

cbr600rr,

Where is Keehi Lagoon Park?? 10ish is good. You know everyone is going to be coming on Hawaiian time anyway.
Mililani Walmart to regroup, not bad, make sure a designated area is posted (what side, where exactly, need to scope it out)

Dole Cannery parking lot? Do they have an open lot?

Haleiwa. Pardon the ignorance, but what do they have over there to eat? Dont live around there.

Kahuku Sugar Mill,...cool. Most people know where that is.

Wouldn't you kind of want to end in the Mililani or town side though. That way whoever is not familiar with the country side wont get lost. Coming out of Kualoa might be a hell of a drive for some and being out all day, I dont know who might be tired from the constant drive.

Figure that route wise, going out to the country then heading back into the vacinity of the meeting place would be good in regards to making sure that we sort of keep everyone together and that way people can get back home easier.

Re: Labor Day Cruise

cbr600rr,

From Ke'ehi (sp??) Lagoon (assuming that is agreed upon) maybe we should go out towards Kualoa through H3 Kaneohe side, grabing lunch then meeting @ Kualoa for a break and to eat, continuing towards Kahuku Sugar Mill, passing through Haleiwa taking a break if needed, then moving towards Mililani Walmart or Oahu Central Park (hows the parking over there?) and ending there? That will probably take about I figure 5 hours or so depending on the speed of the caravan and how fast everyone eats during lunch. Then again path changes can be made as we watch the time of day.

Figure check points for late people would be Kualoa Park, Kahuku Sugar Mill, Haleiwa Town (somewhere) and finally Mililani or the Park.

Thoughts???

Re: Labor Day Cruise

I think we should get a final route with stops mapped out so if some people can't make the first stop they'll know where they can find us. This will also help keep the group together incase we get separated. Of course you don't have to put this on the flyer, just post it here on the board and have the info ready at the start of the cruise. BTW it will also help if we have the FRS radios. If some of the pack gets stopped at a light, they can radio ahead to slow the front down so we all won't get scattered.

Re: Labor Day Cruise

Yeaaaayyyyyy we are moving.

To meet @ Ke'ehi Lagoon might be okay. As far as the direction, since most of the people here are probably from town, to run the route ending up in Mililani area might be better. Like I mentioned, that way most of the people will know how to get back home from there, plus, you can hit the freeway as well. Since the roads out to that side are only 1 lane, this will also help out in regards to if we are running behind time. It will be slow going through that side of the island. Esspecially if we end up behind some slow @$$ tourist.

I have only 2 FRS handhelds, range of 2 miles at best. Lead car, I assume it will be cbr600rr, should have one. The particulars can be worked out some time soon. Once there is a general concensus on the general route, a few of us should meet up one night maybe at Ryans, or somewhere and go through a more detailed planning. Will not be able to please everyone nor accomodate everyone, but, if a plan is formulated and finalized, people will be able to make a decision from there.

I agree though. Lets get the rough planning stages worked out by the end of this coming week 28th to August 1st. We need to get the postings up.
