How long are tires sposed to last

Its been less then 5 or 6 months and i already need new tires. Its gotten to the point where if the road is wet i am screwed. Anyone have any suggestions on some proformance tires that last a little longer?? Thanks

depends on the tread wear number.... the higher the number the longer they last... on my stock 18's we have Michelin Pilot Sports with a tread wear of 280 those tires lasted me 25k (with some donuts and burnouts) The OEM 19's i believe come with Bridgestone Pontenzas with around the same tread wear (someone please correct me if im wrong)

5-6 months??? You must have like a tread wear of 60 or something... those must be some sticky/soft tires

Yeah....you want a tire that has a high UTQG rating (mentioned above). You have the GY Eagle F1 GS-D3's.....right?

I got 25K out of my Potenzas. Not the best, not the worse here. I put on Goodyear 245 45 18's RSA's and I love em'.

Tires..............

How long they last depends on two things, how you
drive and the tires themselvs. Like posted above
when you purchase new tires pay close attention to
tredwear numbers. I had Bridgestones that only
lasted 10k, tredwear was 140 which is lower than
most dragslicks at 160. My latest Michelins are
UTQG treadwear 240 and they are great all year
tires. You can find tires with a rating of 400 but,
the compound is way to hard which hurts your
ability to stop or take off without losing traction.
And, don't even think about driving with those tires
in the rain!

sorry david but i gotta correct you on this one. the treadwear rating is not comparable when comparing two different brand of tires. The 280 on the michelin's and the 140's on the potenza's could be the same treadwear rating for all we know. The treadwear is based on how you drive. I have bridgestone so-3 pole positions and they are totally shot with 15000 miles on them with very aggressive daily driving, i'm still runnin them though and they are holding the road very well for bald tires. The treadwear on them is 220 so if you have the RE050's with a treadwear of 140 (i think, might be 160, i forgot) then if you only get 12-18k miles even with conservative driving consider yourself lucky.

My recommendation for a performance tire that will last you a long time is the new Bridgestone RE960AS pole position. Treadwear: 400 Handling: AA Temperature: A. Its a high perforamnce all season with a 40,000 mile warranty. I'll be putting 2 of these tires on my rears today to replace my shot S0-3's

I just put on a set of General Exclaim UHP. 245/45/18. Z Rated and a treadwear of 380. Have put on 1200 miles so far. Luv em. These are summer only tires but I have the original 17s for the winter. Price was right too.

Tire model? Lowered alignment specs? Driving style?

I just posted in another thread that I still have my original set of Turanzas on my 04 sedan and I have 37,500 miles, which I think must be a record. 45 of my 50 miles a day are fast, highway commuting in good weather. But the other 5 miles get driven pretty hard. Apparently not enough to wear them as fast as most people. Starting to show some wear now and I've begun the chore of choosing a replacement. No decision yet. Open to recs not already posted in this forum.
