VDC acting up after installing 19's

I wonder if anyone has had this happen and has a remedy.

I just installed 19" aftermarket wheels on my car and when I go to drive it....the VDC slip light comes on and the engine cuts power as if I'm spinning or sliding.

Anybody know what the heck is going on ?

Thanks

What tires do you have on the front/back? Most likely you didn't stagger correctly.

I've got 245/35/19 in front and 275/30/19 in back...I thought this was the correct set-up?

If you have 245/35-19 on the fronts, the rears should be 275/35-19 to maintain proper stagger. The sidewalls of your rear tires are a little too small, so the rear tires are spinning about 4.6% faster than they should be, so the ECU probably thinks you are spinning out.

Yeah that VDC is real sensitive. Two different tires on each back wheel can cause the VDC to activate.

two different brands of tires in the front and back could be the problem

IMHO, that would only cause the VDC to activate when you take corners, because the grip would be different between the front and back.

But if I read the post correctly, the VDC was activating while just driving normally, which would lead me to believe his stagger is off. (which in his case, is off by 4.6%)

Well today was my second day with this set up and the VDC didn't come on at all....and it's even raining!

Maybe the computer has to "re-learn" or something? Anyways I'll keep my fingers crossed that it'll be ok now like yours.

Thanks for all the tips guys!

Just an update....It's been about a week now and the VDC is back to normal.

I guess the car had to "learn" the difference with the new wheels/tires ?

same thing happened to me. As soon as I got in my car and took off, the VDC light came on and the engine cut-off just like you had described. I believe in the "re-learning" theory.

It's only happened once and that was way back in january - 7 months ago.
