Acceptable Weight for 19"?

What is an acceptable weight for 19x 8 in the front and 19x10 inthe rear on the coupe? I want to make sure I'm not going with something too heavy. I know the Volks weigh next to nothing but I'm not too interested in the LE series. More interested in a 2 piece forged wheel but am not sure what I should consider heavy or light for that type of wheel.

I would say around 22 lbs. The forged modular 19s I have looked at are 22-24 lbs. That is a significant savings from the stock wheels.

Can I get an exact weight on the stock 18s?

Re: Acceptable Weight for 19"?

When I picked up my Volks, I weighed the stock rims with tires vs the mounted and balanced Volks SF Winnings I put on my car to get real world numbers. Here are the results...

The stock 18" wheels and stock Pilot tires weighed in at 48.9 lbs for the front and 49.5 lbs for the rear.

The 19" Volks with the Nitto's weighed in at 49.2 lbs for the front and 52.5 lbs for the rear.

If you do the math, a stock set of 18" weighs in total 196.8 lbs, and a set of 19" Volk SF Winnings weighed in total 203.4 lbs. That's 6.6 lbs more than stock, which is very respectable considering the larger diameter 19" rim and wider tire patch for both the front and the rear.

In detail that's only an increase of +0.3 lbs for each of the front wheels and +3 lbs for each of the rear wheels....

Re: Acceptable Weight for 19"?

Thanks! The wheels I wanted (19x10) weigh in at 26lbs. wheels only. Guess that's a little heavy but I probably won't be able to tell the diff.

That's still lighter than stock. The stock weights are on here somewhere if you do a search. I think they are 28 or 29 lbs., which is quite heavy for an 18, even a cast wheel.

Re: Acceptable Weight for 19"?

Wow, the stocks are that heavy? I always thought they were like 24-25 lbs or something?

I was really pissed actually when I got the Iforged Aeros I bought a few weeks ago. The fronts were 19x8 and were 24.5 lbs, and the rears were 19x10 and were 26.5 lbs. On the Iforged website, they list the weights of the three piece wheels at over 1 lb lighter. This anomaly is compounded by the fact that my wheels are two-piece, which should be 1lb LIGHTER per wheel according to an Iforged Rep.

This means my wheels were supposed to be ~22lbs for the fronts, and ~24lbs for the rears, but in reality they were substantially heavier... (Look nice as hell though, so I cant be too mad).

If you're looking for a light 19" forged wheel, I would suggest the VOLK line. They got some butter wheels, and are very light...

Re: Acceptable Weight for 19"?

The new Enkei forged 19" wheel for the G35 is 19.5 pounds. The stock 18" wheel for the G35 is 24.5 pounds.
Be careful of the tire choice. The Potenza S0-3's which are popular, weigh about 2.5 pounds more than the Michelins. So you must consider what you spend on rims to save weight, and might be putting back on in rubber when you save dollars!!! It is the combined weight of course, as correctly noted above, that matters.
