Wheels/Tires and Moddnig: Where to Start?
Wheels/Tires and Moddnig: Where to Start?
I want to buy 19" or 20" black rims and new tires for my 2003 Infiniti G35 Sedan and I'm definitely a noob when it comes to all this.
I searched the forum before I posted and I noticed all responses were asking if the car plans on being dropped and what other mods want to be made to the car.
Short answer to that is I don't know yet. Being new to all this I don't want to spend money on a mod now and then regret it later, so my main focus is to buy something now that I can use later if I decide to drop the car or make any other mods.
Any recommendations in terms of tire/wheel sizes? Obviously the look is the main reason I'm changing the vehicle. As long as the performance is close enough to or better than what it is now I'm fine but I don't want to sacrifice look for a significant decreased performance. What sizes should the front and back be? Also how does offset affect all this?

Wheels are a must, many choices out there like the axis shines Im selling
check out my 4 sale tread. Also a cheap drop is the 350z/coupe spring combo. You could leave your struts on or get newer ones from coupes or 350z. GL

There are several things you want to ask yourself when in the market for wheels and tires. First of all, if you are going for the show car look, 20's are for you. They look great and set off the car well. However, if it's performance you are looking for I would go with 18's or 19's. Personally, I am going with 19's because it gives it that show look but doesn't take away from performance. If it's you're first set, take your time and do as much research as you can. It took me a good 3-4 months to find right deals and figure out what I really wanted. It's a big step and a decent chunk of money so it's understandable when you go back and forth. You want to ask yourself these questions
1.) How much you want to spend
2.) What size/offsets
3.) What style
4.) What color
To give you an example, I chose the ADR M sport in Hyper Gunmetal in 19x8.5+35 all around wrapped Falken FK 452 245/40/19. I was looking for a good, safe setup that I wouldn't have to deal with rubbing issues or anything like that. Just wanted a nice set of wheels to set off the ride.
By answering these questions you limit yourself down to a selected few so you can choose between them instead of the million and five different brands and styles out there. All I got to say is, whatever you choose, you will be very happy. Remember, it's your ride and it's what you make of it. People can give suggestions, but you're the only one that matters in the end. So good luck with the search. We'll help you as much as possible
Be sure to let us know when you do make the choice!!!

he said 19 or 20 inch black rims with tires. That narrows the options down a bit. A drop will be an absolute must with 19" and 20" rims. There's not a lot of rim/tire combinations out there in sedan friendly offsets either so really how much money are you talking about spending?

I want black rims. There's a lot of black rims out there that look horrible to me, kind of like a car with missing hubcaps. I've noticed some rims have the chrome lip and the scattered chrome bolts around the outside edge, and the chrome in the center, kind of like this one, which makes them look way better IMO. I don't want too much chrome, just a tad as I'm going to be blacking out the chrome window edging and the chrome door handles. Just enough chrome to avoid that no hubcap look lol.

1) About $1500 on the wheels and tires combined.
2) 19" Wheels, absolutely no clue on size and offset. If someone could explain the pros and cons of different sizes/offsets I'd appreciate it.
And you see the style and color that I'm aiming for. Definitely black rims w/ a slight touch of chrome.
Thanks for the fast responses.

1500 for 19" rims and tires that's on the low end. Brand new only rims I can think of are RPM505's that would be in that price range. You can get you a nice set of used rims and tires though for that price. As for offset the higher the number the less you have to be concerned with rolling your fenders. For the sedan you want to stay in the +30 to +38 range in front and in the rear +40 to mid +30s you will have to look into rolling your fenders if you go lower than thos ranges and dial in negative camber. Widest rim you can fit in the front is 8.5 and in the rear 10." Do your research on camber and offsets it's been discussed millions of times and that's really the best advice any of us can give you on that but we can answer specific questions. Did you plan on going staggard? You'll find that research is very important because our opinion on wheels vary. But those offset ranges are pretty safe.

Yea I'd definitely like to go staggard and also definitely want to avoid rolling my fender. What sizes would best suit me if I didn't want to roll the fender?
Also where does the tire size come into effect?
