But in general, the Bridgeston RE050s are fricken heavy. I have no idea why Infiniti put the lighter Michelin Pilot sports on their heavy cast wheels and turns around and puts the heavy arsed Re050s on their FORGED Rays. That combo makes both weigh about the same!

 

Sorry man - I read that several times and thought I saw 245/40 on the front for some reason.

I thought you were going to run 245/40 F and 255/35 R.

Re050s are heavy so imagine how much havier their runflats are.... which came on my 335.

 

255/35/19 at the back doesn't rub provided that you fold in the rear fender a tad. I was on Michelin PS2 btw.

 

For handling, I will keep the RE050 any day....

I liked the RE050s. Dry/Wet performed well. Decently quiet. But the treadwear and weight are negatives to me.

Tirerack reviewed them and it didn't figure in all that great.

The only Michelin was the PS2s which I don't have. But the winner of the TR test was the Goodyear eagle F1 GS-D3.

Considering I got these used, I'm really happy with what I was able to get vs my criteria (price/quality/size/treadwear)

I have 245/40's on my oem 19's right now and hate the way they look. I would much rather have 35's.

 

I agree. But with a treadwear of 140, you'll get your chance shortly.

 

Update. One concern was the 255 rear widths. But I've run this setup for a few days and it doesn't rub (thanks to all that also ran 255-35s and have commented).

One think I've noticed is that the Michelins seem to be a narrower tire. The fronts look almost stretched even though I'm running 225s still. The rears don't look any wider than the RE050 245s.

Handling is hard to comment on as I've been running the blizzaks for the last few months. Performance? Again hard to tell how it compared to the oem RE050s. But my impression is that there isn't much performance drop from the stocks/blizzaks to these 19s/Michelins. I remember swapping last year and noticing a much bigger drop in performance when I put the 19s/RE050s back on. The weights above confirm my thoughts too. BUT the 255-35 is a touch smaller than the OEM 245-40 it replaced (which could also account for some difference). But a 6lb weight savings from the outside diameter of the rotating mass has to make a difference.

 

Update. I've been averaging about 19.5 mpg. When I swapped to the 19s with the RE050s, my mileage would go down to the 18 mpg range. So I "think" these lighter tires do make a slight diff.

I've also added the RU airbox so I don't know if that made any diff but I doubt it consider how hard I hammer the throttle now Which makes the 19.5 mpg all that more impressive. lol

Update. Wanted to get my tires swapped but the fronts were too worn on the inside and the rears were at the wear bars. ugh.

Ended up shelling out $1200 for a set of Michelin Pilot sport all seasons. Still decently light and swappable. and with a 500 utog.

Since I had to decide right there, I wasn't sure they gave me a deal or not but but after looking at their retail pricing, it looks like they did give me a deal + there was a $70 rebate that ended that day.

But my bootie is still hurting.
