Breaking Wheel STUDS :( HELPPPPPPP

Last Nite i was on the freeway driving back from school and all of sudden the right side of my car starts to vibrate. I pull over, check my tires and all of them were good. I get back in and try to drive away and i hear a loud clanking noise. I get out again and the rear right wheel was half off and hainging on by to lug nuts. 2 of the 5 lug nuts/ wheel studs were broken off and the other 3 were loose.
My question is Why the hell did my lug nuts/ wheel studs break. Is it because my wheels were over Tightened/ torque'd ? Or is it because my rear coilover are set to stiff ?

PLEASE HELP I NEED ANSWERS. its driving me nuts thinking about it.. lucky nothing bad happened and my babi is ok cept my wheel was a lil damaged. i just dont want this to happen to me again..

BTW a cop pullled and asked if he could help. i told him my studs broke and if he had any glue he sure could lol..

My guess is that they were over torque...the last time your wheels were put on, were they put on with air tools?

The FSM states 80lbs and it's always recommended to recheck torque after a couple days. I've watched wheels fly off cars in front of me and it's a scary sight.
