Bead Leaks - How to fix?

Some folks may have read about my experiences with Hyatt last year (https://g35driver.com/forums/canada/...t-lengthy.html).

Well, shortly after getting these "new" tires and wheels I had a flat. I took it to the tire shop (Blaskin & Lane, not back to Hyatt). For sure I had picked up a nail. The tech didn't find any nails, screws, or holed. Must be a bead leak.

I took it back three more times that winter (2008-2009) for a bead leak. The last fix seemed to work as it help air for the rest of the winter and all summer in storage.

First cold snap this fall here in Cowtown and it's flat again. I put air in it and drive to work, 8 hours later, it's flat again. Back to B&L to get it fixed.

B&L have been really good about it, they only charged me for the first visit but nothing since. I was fully prepared to buy new front tires but they are telling me that won't fix it, I need to buy new wheels.

Anyone have any experience with cronic bead leaks? Any advice?

Thanks!

Have seen the wheel lip/bead area get corroded before to the point where you can't fix it. Sometimes you can get lucky and clean the oxidation away, other times the wheel will need to be repaired or even replaced. No good way about it if the corrosion is bad enough.

Thanks. B&L didn't say anything about corrosion. These wheels are essentially new with only about 5,000 Km of Calgary winter driving on them.

Being that they're fairly new, it's not likely bad corrosion, but corrosion may still be a factor. It's more likely the need for a good cleaning around the bead/seating area of each wheel.

I've found this b4 on some of my wheels and it means finding someone who will give the wheels a good cleaning in those areas to solve the issue.

Are you sure they're leaking from the beading area? A simple dunk in water (or spraying with soapy water) will determine exactly where the air is escaping.

Don't forget a new valve.

Colin.

^+1 on a dunk test.
I find it hard to believe the the bead would leak after repeated 'fixes' on a new wheel.
That's really strange.
