Questio about wheels

Just trying to find out if this is true.......I am looking at buying a pair of 18" coupe wheels that are staggered for my 03 Sedan a friend of mine said that you are not supposed to but staggered size wheels on them because it will harm the car if it was not made for them....he thinks it was something to do with the VDC traction control......Is this a problem???? I can either go back to him and say thanks or tell him that he is full of (expletive). Thanks -Aaron

Nothing will happen.

On a contrary note.... you mean a set? or literally a pair?

The Coupe wheels will fit a Sedan and don't look funny at all. In fact, they are pretty much a perfect fit for a Sedan. They're just about flush with the outside of the wheel well. And I don't know where your friend got his info, but 18" G35 Coupe wheels aren't staggered, they're all 18x8 with a +30 offset. I've got a set I run in the summer on an AWD and they work just fine.

it wont be a problem... but staggering depends on what you want from the car - if looks are the most important, then staggering is fine... however, if handling characteristics are important you might want to reconsider...

most ppl aren't going to have issue for normal driving - but in hard cornering and autocross or road course, staggering on this car may not be the best option.

I am purposefully using terms "might" and "may not" because I'm still in the process of determining as well... I don't stagger so I cant tell you from first hand experience... but I have been doing a bunch of research about it and am leaning towards not staggering...

I started a thread in the wheels/tires section that has a couple of interesting links (one is very informative)... if you're interested, here's the link:

There is some truth to keeping the wheel sizes close to the same, but you have some room to play with on a RWD. I believe there is a 3-6% allowable difference before the ABS faults (typical standard...unsure of nissan's exact number). Just pick tire sizes that are close to the same, but don't worry if they aren't exact. You just want to avoid the muscle car look with a rear tire 2" bigger than the front. That's when you have probs.

AWD...the allowable difference is tighter

I got 19" with 245/40/19 front and 275/35/19 rear for almost 3 years now never have a problem. Handling much better in my opinion with wider tires. I say go for it and you should be ok exspecially only 18"

All this talk about staggered wheels and how it can affect performance...but how many of you guys are actually tracking your cars? If you daily drive your car, you're not going to notice a difference.

^^^ I track occasionally - and plan to more often... Most things I do to the car is with performance ability in mind.
