wheel sizes, tire sizes, speedo, help!?

Hi all. I have an '03 Sedan G35 and I want to close up most of the gap between my tires and the wheel well. I have considered many things such as: bigger wheels, bigger tires, lowering, etc.

I like the wheels, but someone at America's Tire told me that if I get bigger tires on my wheels it will mess up my drivetrain and my speedometer reading. Is that true?

I would prefer to stay with my stock silver 6-spoke 17s. Has anyone put bigger tires than the factory spec?

I read on a website that when you go with a bigger wheel diameter you have to go with a lower profile tire. But I just want to fill theat empty space a lot more.

Please help with any suggestions and information.

Thanks you guys are great as usual!

What you want to do is match the outside diameter of the tires on your car now. Changes to this can affect your VDC, ABS, and speedometer readings. So yes, if you increase the size of your wheels you will need to decrease the profile of your tires.

If it is just a matter of closing the gap between your tires and the fenders you need to drop your car. A moderate 1" drop or so shouldn't have any adverse affects on your alignment.

If you go to the top of the wheel forum you can see the specs on the wheels that many members have put on their cars. Also the following link will allow you to play around with tire sizes and see how changes in the tire size will affect your speedo.
