I've got DPE 20s on order and I'm trying to decide on the best tire to protect from curb rash. The wheels are 20x8.5s and 20x10s. I'm considering SO3s in 245/35s & 285/30s or Toyos 245/35s & 275/30s.

Will the Toyos provide enough rim protection? I know I can be carefull but I don't trust anyone else to be carefull that might drive my car, like my mechanic. I must decide this week if I want the SO3s because the rebate ends Saturday. Any opinions?

TIA

Both tires come with limited lip protection. But it doesn't mean that your wheel can't get damaged.

Whatever you do, just don't park close to the curb and don't let anyone drive your car. Those DPE are too nice to damage.

With 8.5's and 10's I'd run 245/35 and 285/30

I understand to be careful even with protection but will the Toyos provide as much because of their design even being a 275 or does the SO3s 285s provide much better protection?

I've never bought a tire based on lip protection. In your case I would go to a local tire shop that has both tires and look at them side by side.

I would get the Toyos myself.

NoTOYO in 285/30 but my next tires will be BFG's 285's and a killer tread. Works for me, they gotta be better than my NITTO's

I decided to go with Falken GRBs 255/35 & 285/30s if James/Creative can make them work.

285's may give you a little more protection. However, If those rims have an aggressive offset those 285's might rub slightly, but fender rolling will help, just depends on offset. With polished lips, you should'nt be to concern with curb rashes, very easy and cheap to fix. Chrome lips are another story.

Thanks, James/Creative said he could adjust the offset to make 285s work.

I've got 255/30 in the front and 285/30 in the rear (20x8.5 and 10). I have the BFGoodrich G-Force KDWs and love them! Will a 255/30 fit in the front with a 20"? I had to get the 30 profile in order not to rub.

Thanks, I understand from James / Creative that the BFGs are a much wider tire than other brands of the same size so according to him with the right offset, I'll be ok.
