tirerack says it all... based on the ratings, I have decided on the AvonTech - though it is unclear if they received higher ratings because of the incredible price point.

I don't really trust the Tire Rack user ratings. They seem very skewed toward Avons even though we've heard several negative reports on them on this site. I do trust the Tire Rack's testing and give some credence to those articles, since they're done by professionals in a somewhat controlled environment. They give the Avon's decent marks, but suggest there's some trade off of handling performance for comfort. Which, by the way, is exactly what people on this site have said about them. For true high-performance All-Seasons, the Michelin Pilot A/S or Pirelli PZero M&S are outstanding. But, of course, you're not going to get them for the price of the Avons or Falkens.

Consumer Reports, which is an un-biased source rated the Falkens #1 in the All Season/Performance catagory.
Tire Rack doesn't sell or rate Falkens, so how can you compare?

I believe tire rack is a major supplier of Avon's and not many local shops have them available without an order. I have about 700 miles on my Falken ST-115 and love them so far. So Falken seems to be a great tire maker. Good Luck

Avons get good reviews but they are frickin heavy, which has to negatively impact performance.

I've posted comments in different places about the Avon M550's. I had them for 800 miles or so and loved them! Then they started shaking and pulling and noone could help. They were returned to Tire Rack for full credit and now I have Bridgestone Turanza LS-V's. They are really close to the Avons. Maybe a hair better in road feel. They haven't shook or pulled yet and I hope they don't. Maybe I just had bad luck with the Avons?????? Good luck with the Avons.

I went with 17in ZE-512s for my girl's CL type S and they've been very good so far. No issues in the snow, rain, or dry.Originally Posted by Chris@DTD

I vote for Falkens Ziez 512.
I had it on my Lex IS300 for my winter set up and the tires did well during snow days and 1 heavy snow day. Not once did it spin out of control, I did have the traction (VSD on G35) on of course.
And now I am using the same set-up (17" Ziez 512/Voxx MG wheels) on my G35 for the winter. Going with the factory recommended 17" sizes.

Finally got them on, and all I can say is COMFORTABLE! These tires are so damn comfy compared to the pilot sports. No more low speed drone when coming to a stop, I can actually hear the stock exhaust while i'm stopping! The one and only gripe about these tires is that they aren't as grippy as the pilots were and they are also about 5 lbs heavier, so the car feels a bit sluggish. For those wanting comfort and very little road noise with the longevity of the 360 Treadwear rating, the Avon Tech 550's are for you.Originally Posted by ozracer01
