whats wrong with my rims? pictures in post

I bought the volk AV's for my G and I loved them, but now they look really bad.

pics of them new:
http://dunlaphomesales.com/blog/gallery/7.aspx

They are now not shiny on the lips:

I was told they have a clear coat on them so I am afraid I will ruin the clear coat. I only had the car washed at a touchless car wash in town, and I would think that since they must wash hundreds of rims like this they would not use any chemicals that would damage the clear coat. I spent $3000 for wheels and tires and they look aweful. Poeple have made comments about the rims, asking what the film haze is, so I am unhappy and embarrased that I have a really nice car, cheap looking rims. I really need to shine them up.

First of all, what is wrong with them?
Secondly...can I polish them to make them shiny again.

A caustic cleaner was used to clean them and ate away at the lips. I believe the Volks are similar to my RH Pro J8's and that the lips are anodized not just polished. Any caustic cleaner will eat away at the annodized finish.

The same exact thing happened to a fellow GSQUADER with his RH Pro R5's. The car wash he went to used a cleaner on em and he has the same exact problem. Currentlty, no wheel repair shops in our area wanna touch em. The volks may be easier since I believe they are a true 2 piece and the centers can be removed to allow high speed polishing. I believe that is the only way you will be able to get the shine back.

There was guy in Virginia I believe that had the same problem as well and his dealer sent them out to be fixed. He said they came out like new. I may have the info in PM's if you're interested.

I learned that the hardway after they slightly damaged my front bumper and wouldn't do anything about it...not to mention all the paint swirls they leave behind.

Looks like carwash damage. The carwash did the same thing to my Volk GTC's. I was pissed. I had to have them buffed out. It cost about $300.00, but the bright side of the story is that the car wash paid for it.

yup. he is NGC member and i think Gmoney was the guy you are talking about w/ RHs. dealer put something on his rims and it was too acidic or something and it killed the rim. he took it to shop and it came back to original state!

Can anyone tell me if using Blue Coral Wheel Cleaner will hurt my Volks? So far it has worked well. Krebitz

Yep, that's why I've never taken my car to the car wash. I just clean them with use mother's polish on them.
