Engine knocks after oil change, please help!!!

After an oil change a week ago, the engine is making knocking noise. The oil that I put in was Castrol 5-30. Please let me know what I should do to stop the knocking noise? Do I have to change the oil to 10-40? The mileage in my car is 45k. Thanks everyone.

You probably changed your filter as well, what filter did you use?

Yes, I did change my filter. Im using Purolator I dont remember the exact name but something like that. I dont think it is caused by the filter.

Assuming the oil isn't actually an issue and it shouldn't be if it has the correct certification per Nissan the oil filter would be another place to look. The reason I mention this is that most oil filters have a bypass valve which operates on differential pressure. Many have reported noise after an oil change because the filter installed was rapidly lifting and closing this bypass valve.

If you are still hearing the noise I would get a Nissan OEM filter and install it, refilling the required amount of oil. Cheap diagnostic.

Send a message via AIM to superchargedg
Have you at least checked the level and also checked for a leak.

Yes, I did check oil level and it is good. No leaking.
I took out 2 quarts of oil today and put back in 1 bottle of 10-30 and 1 bottle of 10-40 to see if it stops knocking or not. If it continues to knock, I'll change the filter to OEM one.

You shouldn't have to mix and match oils yo stop your car from knocking...esp w/45K miles.

I'd redo the entire oil change from scratch with a new oil filter. Purolator is actually a decent filter...esp the Pure 1. It's all I've ever used in 11+ years of DIY oil changes. Still, you never know if some jerk in the parts store stuffed something inside the filter to purposely clog it up. How many of us actually check our oil filters when we take them out of the box? A clear plastic bag could easily slip by.
