very funny
from what i recall when i purchased it, rogue engineering stopped production on the g35/350z shifter, not realizing how popular it was. when they re-released it, it had changed slightly- I don't remember exactly how. I could just be making it all up as i go, but still . . .

shifter is still in the car, for a few days anyway
you shouldn't have to purchase anything extra. if you take care removing the old shifter from the plastic "cup" knuckle it uses, you can re-use it, i did. Here are 2 pics, one of the overall heigth of the shifter and how it looks in the car, and one from R.E. showing what the actual shifter lever looks like . . .

thanks

I know this was sold but just for anyone wondering, Rogue Engineering never had any different versions of the shifter.
I think the confusion started because of their website mentioning something about version/revision 1, 2, etc.
When I was shopping around for a short shifter a while back, I had the same concern. I wanted the newer and better version of the shifter so I decided to call Rogue Engineering and find out.
They told me they never ever made more than one version of the shifter. I was like "WTF..? Are you absolutely sure of this? When did you start working at RE? Your website stated version blah blah before." Well, gentleman responded politely, saying he's the owner (or part of the owner.. I don't remember the full detail.. anyways) and that they only produced one kind of the shifter for 350z/G35. He said the only difference is that they used to sell the shifter with the white plastic "cup" included (which was most likely what their site meant by version 1) and now the shifter is sold by itself (version 2) and if you wanted the cup, it can be purchased separately. He stated that the actual shifter itself was never changed since its first production. I even asked if they had any plans to make updated version and he told me that they had no plans to change it.
For those of you looking to upgrade the shifter, RE is a good choice. Although I ended up getting a different shifter, I had a chance to feel the RE shifter on my friend's car and it's definitely one of the nicer shifters for our cars.

np man.. I'm sure you'll be happy with it. I tried a few myself... 350evo's race short shifter is what i currently have.. Also had stillen's newer version (non-adjustable one. not the adjustable nismo copy version) which was nice but I think the RE shifter is probably the best all-around shifter that doesn't have any negative issues. The only reason I didn't get the RE is because the shift **** position/height remains almost same as stock shifter and I was looking for something lower cuz the shift **** that I wanted to use (UTR titanium ****) sat too high on stock shifter.
