I usually keep it in the 12-18 range depending on windows up/down(mostly down to hear exhaust) and the quality of the media I'm playing(CD vs Radio).

You know what pisses me off... when I'm going out clubbing with my friends or something, and they turn the volume up to like 24 when we get close to the club. We're 27 and 28 years old now... no need to try to look like some hardass gangster and draw attention to yourself by blasting a STOCK system. I know that when I see other people do that, I'm hardly impressed and I certainly don't want to be the person doing that... so I usually just tell them that since I'm the one biting the bullet and driving, I'm controling the radio volume.

Once you go past 23 you are in distortion land and all bets are off as to the longevity of the speakers. Watt's don't kill most speakers, distortion AND Watt's do.
