Question for those who have this same exact setup (JL 500/1, 10w6v2, 4080). What do you guys have your head unit and amp setting set to?

 

having problems w/ grommet.. any other easy way or keep trying w/ the scissors?

 

Try a razor or knife. I resealed the hole with silicone to ensure no water entered through the cut.

 

Yup, try an exacto knife. Definitely re-seal the grommet with silicone.

 

Is there a reason to disconnect the 6x9s. I thought it might be best to retain all the factory speakers but that's just my assumption. Is there a possible way to plug the amp into the head unit somehow, because I have my slightly older Rockford Fosgate P6002 amp and am curious if there is some way to tap into the output from the head unit's harness. Just curious, probably gonna start the install in a few weeks once my sub arrives and I get a paycheck to pay for the awesome 4080 box!!

 

Wiring it depends on whether you have the Bose system or not.

I removed the 6x9's because they are the "subwoofers" in the Bose system, I didn't want to use 6x9's for rear fill, and I wanted more bass to vent into the cabin from the trunk.

 

I do have the Bose system. So in this case it's the general recommendation to get rid of the 6x9s, as opposed to possibly upgrading them??

 

Not necessarily-- the point is that you have to get the sub amp a signal from somewhere... so if you disconnect the 6x9s, you can use those speaker wires (and a line out converter) to get RCA outputs, which the amp will like.

I'm not a rearfill kinda guy either, but the 6x9s do blend pretty well, and add midrange in addition to lower bass, so I'm not sure I'd axe them.

I don't know about the non-bose systems though... if you're going all aftermarket, then yeah, ditch 'em.

 

So even with the 6x9's connected you can still hear the bass coming from the trunk?

 

That will work for most cars, but it's not a good idea to tap into the 6x9 signal for your sub on the Bose equipped cars. The Bose amp eq's the system, which affects the 6x9's, and the Bose amp also limits bass output as you increase the volume, which is undesirable with a subwoofer.

The non-bose cars don't have 6x9's.

Tap into the audio signal before the Bose amp so the Bose amp doesn't alter it.

Agent, I kept mine connected in case I ever have to remove the box for more trunk space..at least, I'll have some stock punch. Plus, I don't feel they interfere the overall sound of the system even after the sub and amp are connected.
