so i decided to wire the radar detector to the homelink mirror last night. went to rat shack and bought a phone cord, cut one end off to add connector pins to the middle red and green wires. red is 12volt+, green is ground (your phone cord MAY have differently colored wires, but these colors are standard). red goes into the black and pink wire from the homelink wire harness, green goes to the black wire. works great. no more cord.
i understand the invisicord option is nice for you non DIY'ers, but you cant beat 3 dollars. you dont even have to pay that if you have a phone cord lying around and some pin crimps.

I was thinking of doing the same, but I'd like to wire the warning light to one of the homelink lights as well. You can't see the Passport from inside the car. It's behind the mirror. The remote wire for the passport includes a warning light, so it must be one of the other wires that controls it.

you lose functionality of the mute button. i suppose there would be a way to rewire the homelink to use one of the homelink buttons, but since i dont use the mute button very often i wasnt worried about it. if anyone gets that working please post the DIY.
I used regular pin connectors like this:

My best guess is that you dont have the wires from the plug correctly. Red is Pos. Green is Neg. I don't know if it has anything to do with it but, here are the directtions from my Invisicord: 12V+ to Black w/pink wire and 12v- to black wire in mirror plug. My mute on the face of the 8500 works fine.

Here is mine, I just tapped into the homelink wires. It was pretty easy to do. I just bought the radar mount that was $20. Also I tought mutting the radar on the radar itself was going to be a pain in the a**, but I dont think is actually that bad now it can easily be reach. Here are some pics.
