Factory iPod Integration Successful...
Very Nice write-up! very much appreciated.
My dealer (In Canada BTW) owes me $250 worth of parts. He looked these up and returned this to me today:
hello paul
999u7-vr002 $249.95
999u7-vs000 $34.95
two days to get
thanks brad
Now, I know that's more expensive than EverythingG35 but since the parts are free (I won $250 for parts in a draw they had) I figure this is a good way to spend it.
Do I actually need the kit from EverythingG35.com or could I probably get it to work with just those 2 parts? I have the Bose SOW, No-Sat, No-Nav
Which steering wheel and console controls will work to operate your iPod functions?
Thanks

– Yes, but you will have to have the iPod unplugged from the iPod harness. The integration kit is design to over ride your satellite radio.
So I'm just guessing that if your Sat Radio is over ridden that is would not feed you Nav with traffic info. If I'm wrong it wouldn't be the first time.(or the last)

$250 of found money is a great start !
The two parts you mention are for the iPOD Gateway and the Harness. What you will also need is the iPOD cable(connects your iPOD to the iPOD Gateway). The other materials in the kit are some install instructions which are irrelevant unless you drive a Quest/Nissan as well as user manual instructions for that specific radio. I have found the instructions pretty useless. However the kit also came with the iPOD Cable, ties, grommet, and padding you can use to adhere the iPOD Gateway as well as additional padding that I used to protect wiring etc. The padding includes an adhesive that seems really strong so dont use the padding except in your trunk because I think it would be tough to get off any other surface without maring the surface.
Regarding the steering wheel controls. I dont have the premier sound system or NAV, so my only available options were Mode, up/down, and volume. The mode works just like before no changes (toggling between AM/FM /CD/AUX etc), volume works as before, the up down selection appears to change between iPOD modes (Artist/Playlist/Album/Song etc...). A recap of what audio controls works and how can be found at https://g35driver.com/forums/showthr...70#post2812370 (look at the last image of the three attached images and on the image is some text)
Thanks...

Good luck and if you have any questions just ask...glad to help !
ps. I can't vouch for how easy it is to run the iPod cable to the center console between the front seats...I started to but decided on locating the iPod in the back seat center console which made the work much easier...
Its Digital

In the 2007 G35 Sedan there are three RCA inputs (Red/White/Yellow for video) in the center console. Before I installed the iPod Integration kit, which uses the "satellite infrastructure" connections in the G35, I ran the iPod from the 1/8 audio out on the top of the ipod into the RCA Inputs (source Aux input in the car) and the quality was great. Running it via the iPod integration kit I think the same iPod sounds a little better and I think it is due to the fact that the iPod integration cable connects to the other connector at the bottom of the iPod (the one that you use to sync up, charge, etc) as opposed to the 1/8 audio connection at the top....
Personally I always burn my music on my iPod at the highest bit rate available as MP3 (320 kbps I believe)... the songs take up more disk space but the quality is so much better...that also makes a difference.
I had the fm transponder in my other vehicles for about......30 seconds....they stink. IMHO. In my other vehicle I have an in-dash Alpine Stereo with build in iPod integration and the quality is awesome. My wife’s car has the Cassette adapter. Using a Cassette/iPod Adapter IMHO is even better than the FM transmitters.
The human ear is not the most precise measuring instrument, but there is no doubt that the integration kit, and RCA inputs are so much better than the FM transmitter.
One last thing...the integration kit also charges the iPod which is nice. I also found that there is a cable you can buy that connects to the bottom of the iPod and connects to the RCA inputs in the car that ALSO charges the iPod but it is about $60-70 bucks and for an additional $100+ I felt it was better to go with the integration kit instead that provides some controls from the radio etc...

Also; perhaps more importantly, how do you like it so far? Is it worth it IYHO?
PS
Did you actually start jogging again? Didn't think we engineers did that sort of thing. Kidding of course

Overall I'm glad I installed it. It is clean and by using Playlists to organize things (I don’t have many playlists right now) it should be fine. Charging the iPod is a good thing as well as freeing up my RCA inputs and also not having to store the iPod in an already small console between the seats. Would I recommend it? Yes. $200 can be seen as a small investment depending on how important your audio comfort is in your car. Heck $200 is only 3 tanks of premium gas!
If I find more controls I will let you know and also if you find more please reciprocate.

BTW - Only 2.5 tanks of premium in my neck of the woods but still justifiable IMO<O

So I'm just guessing that if your Sat Radio is over ridden that is would not feed you Nav with traffic info. If I'm wrong it wouldn't be the first time.(or the last)

I cant say for sure with the iPod integration, but I do know that if you add a Sirius receiver (which uses the same harness and overrides the XM sat signal) the XM nav traffic does still work. I've had mine running like this for over a month with no issues. So I'd be willing to bet it will work in this situation also.

Has anyone been able to find a source for a longer or extension iPod cable? It still seems ideal to have the gateway in the trunk, and the iPod comfortably in the center console.
iPod 30pin to 30pin, male/female extension cable

Purchase: http://www.radtech.us/Products/iPhoneCables.aspx only 2' long but should reach the centre console. It's the only manufacturer I could find. Hard to believe this is not mass produced.
