The bottom line with cops and radar detectors is, if they're using Laser, it's instant on/instant off, so unless you're lucky and there's someone right in front of you your radar detector will likely not help you. HOWEVER, I have owned radar detectors since I was 16, and I wouldn't drive without one. They pay for themselves in no time - just don't trust it to allow you to drive 20 over the speed limit and always save you. I've got an Escort SOLO and it has probably paid for itself 20 times over in 5 years. Only ever gotten one ticket which was completely my fault (95+ in a 45, cop's radar only registered 80 'cuz he was really far away at an angle). I've learned a lot since then - can't drive like that and expect not to get a ticket.

If you can afford it, go with a V1 - you won't be disappointed. I'm purchasing one in the near future.

I have it, and to be honest I got a ticket with my v1, I took off on a light did not realize that had a trooper behind me....once I got to the speed he wanted to catch me at he lazerd me and and the only thing my v1 could do was to tell me im ****ed and get ready to bend over.

You gotta keep your eyes open when you're breakin' the law. I have a V1 and it's saved me at least 2 or 3 tickets a year, but just looking 1/2 a mile down the road, keeping an eye on the rearview, and watching onramps for cops entering the freeway behind me has saved me twice that many tickets.
