Question CD player says "Check Disc"

I came home from a concert the other night...had a few drinks and was feeling great from a night of good music and dancing...I had a bounce in my step as I walked inside my house and locked the doors to my G..

I woke up the next morning and realized that I left the sunroof open...it STORMED that night, so my G was soaked well, I got all the water cleaned up, but now my CD player won't work. The radio works fine, and the actual mechanics of the CD player work fine (i.e. loads and ejects discs in all 6 trays)...but when I go to play a CD it loads for a second then says "Check Disc". I'm hoping maybe it's just some kind of fog or temporary thing on the laser...but it's been a few days now. Has anyone else ever had this problem? and is there a way I can "reset" the CD player?

I have a 2004 G35 w/premium package, nav, and bose stereo system.

Mine does that occasionally. The next day it's back to normal.
I'd love to know why and find a fix.

^ +1 same

Maybe it just has trouble reading a disc sometimes? I figured check disk meant that my CD was scratched or something.

yeah I tried all new CD's and still nothing...I'll get a CD cleaner and see if that helps...it's been 5 days now so it seems like it should have cleared by now. I want to install a DVD player to use in tandem with the nav and radio, but the CD player still needs to be good. ahhhh i'm such a dumbass for leaving the sunroof open.

If it is still under warranty, get it into a dealhere ership ASAP and get it replaced.

If not and all else fails, there are a few members who sell their stock HU once they upgrade.

Hope it works out for you.

Worse case, aftermarket HU

Hi,

Did you find a fix to this issue? My DC player has been doing the samething. I read your problem below. It does the exact same thing on mine as well. It loads fine all 6 CDs, but would just say check disk. Even the new CDs dont work. Have you been able to get it to work? If so how. It will be of great help.

Thanks in advance

well, it's working now but it still intermittently goes back to check disc. I'm going to be replacing it with an aftermarket player soon. I haven't decided on the model yet...but between the new DVD player, dash kit, speakers, and sub etc....it will cost about a G.

The CD players on these cars suck, this is a somewhat common problem, though not the most common. Some have had results from disconnecting/reconnecting the battery, but your best bet is to swap to an aftermarket radio.
