Guys, where is the odometer reading stored?
Is it stored in ECU only or in the chip on cluster also?

I want to see if I can buy a used speedo cluster, and eff around with LEDs in it to see if i can change them.
any thoughts on that?

Why would you want to change the odo reading?

 

to make it match his cars if he decides to use his switched cluster. i dont know specifically for the g35 but with other cars you just have to take the new cluster in and get it reprogrammed. so that leads me to believe its stored separately.

Reprogramming costs quite a bit, thats why I am wondering if it is stored in he onboard chip.

 

call the dealership and find out if you need to bring old odometer to reprogram the new one.

If no then it's prolly stored somewhere else if yes then I doubt it is stored anywhere else but the odometer it self.

 

Mileage is stored in the cluster itself. You will need to take the odometer to the dealer and have the calibrate the readings.

FBI is the least concern of mine.
I want to give it a go in swapping LEDs for something else, and want to see if I can stretch it out as a project, or do I have to get it done all in one day.
