I looked at the Japan website and found that the 05 AC controller has the Dual button. Does this mod still need to be done?

 

yes... and u have to solder on the LEd light and a resistor for the LED light... PITA but worth it!

u have to take it off your stock one... look on page 4 (i think) of this thread for instructions!

 

I have one quick dumb question, what happens if you don't bother modding the new Ac controller does it work like a single controlled unit or does it just blow 75 degree air on the passenger side???

 

it works like a single controlled unit, it wont let you switch to passenger... not a biggie if yur girl isnt very picky!

wow yes youre right it does! but yes this mod still needs to be done, the A/C controller form J's garage doesnt have the button or resistor or LEd soldered on...

wait, you dont have the premium package?? then i dont think it will work. if your car didnt come with dual climate control, then doing the mod will be useless, I THINK!

 

Actually I believe the brains are built into the AC board, which is why you can just switch the button and have it work. Otherwise you would need to order a premium AC controller unit. It's a cost cutting function just to have the dummy button over the same board. The brains are built into the MCU that controls the board, so it's just a software difference, and a couple of traces.

 

Inno, I would be really interested in finding out if you are right. Since I am about to do the DD conversion myself (parts are on their way) I had thought about doing the dual climate button as well. But just like you my car did not come with premium package so I have no dual button in my existing controller. I was also assuming that the board would have the capability, I just needed the button, resistor and LED. Since your car did not come with them, mind sharing where you are going to get the button, resistor and LED from? You mentioned a premium controller that comes with the button, can you order that?

It's kinda of weird that we are contemplating doing the same mods: DD, rearview mirror and now dual climate control...
