Anyone running JL 500/1 + 300/4 with no caps/bats? Any problems?
Hey Guys,
I'm trying to get everything together for my audio system and I'm having a hard time deciding even after searching through the forums and reading through threads like mad, maybe some of you could help me out a bit...
Here's my proposed system (replacing b[l]ose)...
JL 10w6v2 in a 4080 on a 500/1
JL XR650-Csi components up front and JL XR650-Cxi coaxials in rear all on the 300/4
Keeping stock HU and planning on grabbing a cleansweap when they're released, maybe an EQ in the meantime.
A couple questions that would help me out greatly...
*1*
Is a 500/1 too much power for the 10w6v2? I've heard of those amps putting out over 700rms at 14+ volts, any truth to this? Would I be better off running the 10w6v2 (2 ohm dvc) with a 300/2 running 4 ohms bridged? Or would that not be enough power?
*2*
Is the g35c stock electrical system able to handle a 500/1 and a 300/4 without any trouble? I guess what I'm looking for is someone who is running this setup without any problems. I've seen threads speaking of this but no one has came out and said, "yep, running 500/1 + 300/4 no problems at all with no caps/bats..."
*3*
What would you guys think about swapping the w6v2 with a w7? The only reason I'm not doing this is because I really like the 4080 and it'd save me a little money. If I went with the w7 I'd most likely end up having a shop make me a custom fiberglass box, probably $$$... Also note I do really like a LOT of deep bass, just dont want it to drown out my highs.
Criticism on the setup is also welcome!!
Thanks
Anthony

4080 himself recommended the 10W6V2 + 500/1 combo to me... I've seen it many times before and it seems to be a good match... I have a kicker 400.1 on my 10W6V2 and it's definitely not overpowering the woofer...
as far as the 10W7, i'd skip that idea... I have several friends who work in the car audio business and they have said repeatedly that you practically can't use a 10W7 in a car because its ideal box size is too big... considering our pee-wee trunks I wouldn't try it... leave the 10W7 for a QX56 project :-)
what amp output are our alternators? i had a 10W6 + Kicker 400.1 + Rockford 400.4 running on a 10 year old GS300 w/stock alternator and battery and it seemed to do fine... that doesn't answer your question, but i guess it shows that on an "average" alternator something like that should be ok...

You know I actually had my eye on the kicker 400.1 for the w6v2 I'm glad you mentioned it.
I believe our alternators are rated at 110 amps minimum. In reality they probably put out a little more though I would think. The w7 does need a massive box... I definitely wouldnt want to remove my spare either. w6v2 it is...

ax11...The JL amps use a regulated power supply so you shouldn't have to worry about them sucking too much juice from the rest of your cars electrical system
2JZFAN...I agree with your buds on the W7 deal. I used to work at a store that is a JL authorized dealer. The W7 does need a lot of box volume or a crap load of power. Although you could probably do a 8W7.

I'm running a 500/1 and 300/2 now and my Xenons don't flicker but my other lights do...but very very little...only noticeable if you're like 2 ft in front of it. If it was noticeable I would have gotten a cap by now so I wouldn't look ghetto at night. I'm running 2 10W3v2s. I plan on getting a cap eventually, but for now, it's just unnecessary. I would take the money and invest in Dynamat rather than buy a cap. I'm getting a 2nd bulk pack here this week.

W6 Is Not Worth The Money When You Could Pay 10% More For Something That Will Handle More Power Cleaner. My 2 Brand New Jl10w6's In A Ported Custom Box Dont Really Sound All That Great. JL AUTHORIZED DEALER(TWEETER) MADE BOX--TWICE TO GET IT EXACTLY RIGHT(ASKED TO HAVE IT REDONE CUZ IT JUST SOUNDED WEAK)I Have The Jl 1000/1 Amp Powering Them. Well, One Sub Is Now Blown--jl Sending Me A Brand New One. GOOD WARRANTY,BUT I Would Have Sprung For The W7 If I Knew The W6's Coulnt Handle That Power.the Jl Amps Actually Pump 33% More Juice Than They Advertise! My 1000/1 Amp Tested At 1447 Watts When I First Hooked Everything Up...impressive! But The Subs Leave Room For Improvement! W6's Are Made For Space Constraints----g35 Can Fit 13w7's If You Wanted That Really Deep Bass.
one W7 Is Better Than My 2 W6's . Ive Heard Both. Do You Listen To Hip Hop? If You Do, I Think The W6's Travel Too Far (excursion) To Acheive The W7's Sound. They Sound Similar When You Hear Short Pulses Of Deep Bass. But The W7 Can Carry That Deepness For Longer Notes--cleener. Youll Find Yourself Turning Up Vol. On W6's To Get The W7 Sound---it Does A Decent Job (imitating)except On Long Deep Bass...imo.

I appreciate all the input...
but I think I may be a little more confused than before I posted... lol
Here's what I'm thinking now, the 300/4, the jl highs mentioned above, but maybe the 650TR coax for rear, 500/1, jl10w7 in custom box (something like this but on the drivers side, and an optima yellow top...
I think if it looks good and I can still actually use my trunk somewhat I wont mind the w7. The box in the pics on the link doesnt look like it takes up tons of space. I definitely like long rolling bass notes, I listen to just about everything, but some Techmaster PEB (lol) on a nice sub just sounds so wonderful! lol
