great write up... i sound deadened my coupe... with 3 rolls (150 square feet)of fatmat extreme 80 mil. wow.. I drove around town with my complete rear seat and side panels removed... and it was amazing how quiet it made it. no more fuel pump buzz or tire noise. then i put the panels back in and seat WOW its like a new car... I also added acoustic foam, and the low expanding foam (flexable) i took plenty of pics as i am doing a huge install at this time. but this write up is just awesome thanks,,,, and the weight,,, i dont care the pleasure and feeling far surpass the worry about losing a few tenths in the quarter mile that i hardley ever do. to each is own i guess.

So I'm about to order some Damplifier from Second Skin... How many sq ft do I need If I'm going to do:
both front doors
both rear door
trunk floor
trunk lid

It's about 100 bucks for 40sq ft. Is that enough??

thanks.

Depends on how much you want to deaden. I did 1 layer on the inner portion of the front doors and one layer on the outer portion of the front doors, though if I had to do it again I would do 2 layers on the inner portion and maybe 2 layers (thought 1 is fine) for the out portion of the front door.

As for the trunk lid, it depends on how much rattling you currently get. I'll probably run a pair of 12s or a single 15 in my G35 when I do my system and I'll do 3, maybe 4 layers. I'd say 3 2 - 3 layers on the trunk lid should be fine.

For the actual trunk floor and walls I don't know how much you would need. I used the spectrum and sprayed it 3 times (mixed with some water). The water did dilute it but I did 3 thick layers, which probably was an equivalent to 1 layer of damplifier. I would do at least 1 layer of damplifier for the floor and at least 2 for the walls.

As for the rear doors, it's not all that necessary but it would reduce road noise in the rear and I'd do either the same as the front or 1 layer on the inner and 1 layer on the outer portion of the door.

You will need more than 40 sq. ft. I'm not too sure how much though. 80 - 100 sq ft would probably cover all of what you want to do. I could be wrong though. What you can do is order 40 sq. ft. and see what that will do for you and go from there. I did 10 sq. ft. on the hood of my Honda Accord so that could help determine how much you would need.

Here is a link to some of the deadening I did with the Accord. http://secondskinaudio.com/rides-user.php?userride=117

I do have larger pictures and if you'd like I can send them via PM (to anyone) and I do have more pics if you want to get a better idea of what I did. I don't know if it would help with our G's but with the Accord, I used the liquid deadener on the tail lights. I pulled them out and just did the back of it and it helped a little with the rattling.

holy crap you've got damplifier, overkill, and rattle pad all on the door

It reminds of a sandwhich with like 10 layers of meat lol. Yea I'll probably go with just 40 sq ft first. I probably wont need as much deadening since I'm planning to sell my JL slash amps and go with a weaker PDX-5. Just a simple system and should be plenty for regular listening. Thanks for the help don.

Yep It needed more deadening on the inner part of the door though. Wish I would have known you were selling your amps. A friend of mine was looking to get the amps you have but ended up buying some older Eclipse ones.

what kind of carpet underlayment did you use? I'm on the Home Depot website and most of the underlayment they have looks to be too thin. I'm very interested in reducing the road noise in my G

A friend of mine told me about camping pads. It is a closed cell foam so the door panel wont take shape of the door, but if fits between the door panel and the door just fine with no clips sticking out, it will reduce some of the rattling, and it is very cheap. They carry them at walmart. Here is a link. http://www.walmart.com/catalog/produ...uct_id=9856753

I used Dynamat, and other products like it. For My G I might go with a suggestion of my Coworker a 4X4 pro. Have Truck Spray on Bed Liner sprayed on ALL the Panels, Cheap, Water proof, and you can choose the thickness

That rubber undercoating used in the trucks as bedliners is also great for the inside of an enclosure. I used to it to seal corners and somewhat deaden the inside of the enclosure.

hmmm food for thought i like this thread.. alot of ways to help silence unwanted noises.. I have an endless supply of acoustic foam and used that on top of the matting as you can see in my pics above (doors) if you tap on the out side of any of my exterior panels all you get is a dead thud... no more "metalic ping" driving the car with the radio off its like a quiet room... im loving it// with the radio low you can get all the detail of your music with out having to raise the volume for the outside noise.... however my supercharger is still heard... but thats not a bad thing ... my friend says its like flying in a boeing 777 you can slightley hear the turbine engines singing,,,,at highway speeds with the radio off.
