Wiring for new door speakers (04 Sedan)

I'm replacing the door speakers with Boston Pro seperates to be powered from a Precision Power amp in the trunk. Bought 100-ft of 14-gauge speaker wire at Home Depot, which is nice and thick. Unfortunately, the installers I've spoken with say they can't run this wire all the way to the speakers due to difficulties routing the wire into the doors. The rubber sleeves containing the wire which exits the door, enters the car via a plug-in connector which has no pass-thru hole to accomodate new wire. So they just want to patch into the existing factory wire behind the dash which is much thinner - probably 18-gauge at best - defeating the whole purpose of my thicker/better wire.

I admit the sound difference is probably insignificant on the road, but just wondering if anyone had any success wiring into the doors?

I personally haven't gotten into my doors yet to replace speakers, but many others have, and they were able to run new speaker wire.

Having wired all my cars before the G, I know how much of a pain it can be. It sounds like the installers don't want to run the wire themselves, probably to busy or lazy.
If i were you I would just take the panels off and have a look yourself. Sometimes not having to pay for someone else to do it, allows you to take your time and possible do it yourself.

For those hard to reach areas I sometimes had to run the wire from the door to the inside of the car, that's usually reverse of what they do sometimes.
Or use a thicker piece of wire, with tape on the end to snake it through, then attach your new wire to it and pull.

Maybe try an advanced search for "speaker wire" or "door speakers" in this forum. There should be alot of topics

The installers are correct, there are molex plugs in the door jambs. Running wires into the doors isn't impossible, just difficult and time consuming. Interview more installers, you will find one that will be willing to do it properly, just be willing to compensate the installer accordingly. Good luck.

try the grommet behind the battery compartment, it will support a 4awg cable.

I ran 0 awg from the battery to the trunk in my sedan for my amps--use the factory grommet behind the battery compartment. I also ran 12 guage wire to the front and rear speakers. There is a grommet in the door jamb that can be slit to accomodate wire, and then puncture the stock wire harness towards the bottom of the boot in the door. I used a multi-purpose silicone to seal it, and then to hide the wire, I took some black wire loom-it looks like it belongs--no problems. It was a pain, I'll admit, but I felt it was worth it. The grommet in the door jamb is located below the stock wire boot and is about .5" diameter. On the rear doors, you can run the wire right through the stock boot-just lube it up first--otherwise you will be there for a long time!

um..
I would of tried that.. except TWO things. A)We were set on the driver's side and B)Reason is I have 3 sets of RCAs, the AmplifierLink Cable, and the XM Antenna, and the turn on wire all going through the right side, so it was pretty full. Believe it or not, the 8 gauge is running pretty well... I used to get dimming with just the 5 ch amp,now with both of them.. it doesn't dim anymore

That installer you talked too seems a bit lazy to me. It isn't all that difficult to do. However, I used 14 guage Stinger Expert series wire and that was very managable imo. Find another guy to do it.
