OK, let me see if I get this...

You want to go double din on your 04, correct? That's not too hard, but here's the tricky part... You go on to ask how big is the opening for the a monitor. Knowing it's a "double din" should give you an idea on how big the opening is for starters (the approx size of two regular aftermarket headunits), but what really lost me is when you stated all you want is a monitor hooked up to a dvd player? If that's the case, how do you plan on listening to the audio end of it? Where's your radio going to go, or did you mean you wanted a headunit (totally two different things) instead of a monitor. A headunit that has AV inputs perhaps or even one that plays DVD's (no need for an additional DVD player). Is that what you meant? If that's the case, you have a number of option. What type of budget are you working with. Have you even priced out what the DD kit alone will cost you? It doesnt come cheap! Some of the DD conversion that I have seen have run upwards and over $2000 and that's for the components alone in the console and nothing else. It also doesnt look like you know what you're doing, so you're going to have to also look into a shop who will do the work for you, which will only add to the over-all cost. In most cases you will also loose your steering wheel controls, unless you shell out even more $$$ and get a special module (doesnt work on every radio though) to adapt them to your new system. Once installed, your next item on the list will most likely be the OEM speakers and possibly an amp. It can get very adicting not to mention costly. So if that's what you really want, go shopping and get some price qoutes. Just don't be shocked at the numbers you recieve....

The kit itself..from what I've seen doesnt run that much. The most I've seen it for is about $450..that's from a guy in Japan. You can actually order it off Grubbs which I did..but I unfortunately order the finisher for the 03/04' model because my b/f failed to show me the pic..after I saw it I knew it wouldn't fit my 05'. You do need the separate a/c controller. As far as the bracket..I ordered mine..but I was informed you don't need it since the car already comes with it.

The opening of the DD finisher will fit those video screens..by pioneer, kenwood so forth..believe it's a 6" monitor. Also you'll probably have t shell out a few hundred for wires, cable and adapters.

Of course you can, but how would you turn it up?

Before you answer, "The steering wheel," please re-read Ducatiguy's post. There's a lot of insight buried in there. This is also why many screens you see installed like this are touchscreens. In reality, they are a headunit with a screen for the face, not just a monitor.

EDIT: Missed the fact that you already have Navi.

Here's what I am thinking:
You already have Navi so you wont need that in your new headunit. You will need the finisher and AC control (about $400) and if you just want to play DVD's then you might want to look at the Kenwood units. Something like the Kenwood DDX6017 or DDX7015. They have the audio controls and will also play DVD (6.5" screen). Navi is available in a seperate unit but you wont need it. You are looking at under a $1000 for one of these units. Installation should cost about $150-200.
Hope that helps ,
Mario
