Re: How about window roll-up via OEM remote ?

Previous posts described the installation requiring a DMM, is that still necessary? Also, I assume that insallation is only needed on one of the doors right?

Thanks,
Bruce

no the new ones will not require you to move the cap and put the diode in. the cap will already be moved and the diode will be there. all you will have to do is install. i do believe that kevin has also updated the timing so you dont have to hit it as fast on the new ones as well, but once you get use to it you can make it work everytime.

Re: How about window roll-up via OEM remote ?

the dmm is prolly not necessary, but it is a very good idea to use one to check to make sure you have the right wires. like the guy witht he 350 said he had 3 white wires in his and spent bout 45 mins tryin to figure out which one was the right one. there is a wire chart included in the instructions telling you which wires are which and what they do, but its always good to test and make sure. i got mine at radioshack for 15 dollars when i needed it for another project.

yes install is only need on one of the doors. i thought bout installin on the passenger door to see if it would work, but then i thought htat it would need to be connected to where the master window controls were located which is in the driver door. i dont think it would matter really which door you put it in though

Re: How about window roll-up via OEM remote ?

Thanks for all your hard work Daniel. About the passenger door it will NOT work in there. The module works by 'tricking' the car into thining the key is in the cylinder. There is no cylinder on the passenger door, therefore nothing over there to trick.

All of the final release boards will be complete with no mods needed. A DMM is not necesarrily needed, but I STRONGLy suggest you verify all wires before you hook any wieres up to your electrical system. Although unlikely, it is possible that wire colors could change without notice.

On to more important stuff.... Most of you who have participated in this thread no my sob story about trying to finish ths project around my busy work schedule (I'm always on the road). For the next six weeks I am going to be traveling back and forth between Philly and Dayton and I will basically be away from my car the whole time. I would really LOVE to find a person in Philly that has a G35 that would like to become a beta tester. I travel with all the same equimpment that I use at home so I will be able to further troubleshoot the random door locking problem. So, if you are in or around Philly and would like to see the project progress faster then it is now PLEASE PM me and we can set something up (we work till 5pm everday.) We will also be in Philly every other weekend so some time late saturday or sunday will be open also. If I can't find any testers in the area the releaese of public version of this mod will be delayed about two months or so....

Thanks!

Re: How about window roll-up via OEM remote ?

Man, it's tuesday already and I still haven't received my unit... =(

Kevin, could you send me detail instructions on the modification I will need to make when I get the box? I can't wait to try this thing out.

So, so far there's only been 2 units installed? and 1 work perfectly as it (in the 350Z) and 1 needed minor modification.

that's good to know. hope it comes soon!!

Re: How about window roll-up via OEM remote ?

to install the diode just pick up a diode from your local radioshack. i used an in4003. just splice it into the blue wire with the stripe facing the board. see my pictures.

to move the cap you need to desolider it out of its orginal location. the cap is polar sensitive and the side witht he grey stripe is the negative side. the side with the strip needs to go on to the middle pin of the votlage regulator, which is the ground pin. the other end needs to go on the 5 volt output. there will be a pin that is connected to the 12 votl input and then the ground and then the 5 volt output. if you hold the board with the metal part of the voltage regulator facing to the left, the 12v input is the top pin, then the second pin is the ground pin (where the lead for the cap with the stripe goes), and the bottom pin will be the 5v output and is where you need to connect the other lead (side with out the stripe) for the cap.

Re: How about window roll-up via OEM remote ?

Good news and BAD news,

Good news first:

I think I found the problem and have attached an artical I found addressing the issue. It also explains why my proto board worked and the manufactured boards don't (on my proto board the cap was on the left side of the chip and very close to it.) However, I can't test any of this until I get home in two weeks! Also, I have decided to step up to a larger cap to help with the interference problem. I have to see what is availible but I'm think of going to about a 220uF and also adding a .7uF ceramic cap to the input... enough technical rambling....

BAD NEWS: I got a speeding ticket for doing 85 in a 65 coming to Philly, on top of having NO G35 to work on here. Why this is bad... $165 ticket = higher prices for modules!!! haha. Or maybe I will just sell one super special platinum, one of a kind, limited edition 1 of 1 module to some lucky guy for $165! Seriously though, someone has to know someone around the Philly area (I'm by the airport) who has a G35.

Re: How about window roll-up via OEM remote ?

Wow, I am terrible at actually posting things on here.... I always think I post them but I hit preview on accident and don't realize it, and then I close the window. Only to come back three hours later to see my post never made it....

I got my $165 ticket on the turnpike. The cop was sitting on the other side of a bridge and as soon as we went under it I was nailed. Oh well.

Other cars 1? This is the THIRD speeding ticket I've gotten in my work truck in about 9 months. I have never got one in my G :KNOCKING ON WOOD:

IllPhilly, want a window mod? Want a window mod installed professionally by the guy who designed it? Wanna come hang out and drink a few beers and work on your G? PM me. I'll be in Philly till next Thursday working. We get off around 5 every day so I have all night to do whatever I want. I would love to test the new design on your car!

The ceramic cap will go between the 12 input and the ground of the regulator. It is there to help stablize the voltage going into the regulator. It won't make the circuit work better but it will make it last longer. Instead of sharp electrical spikes going into the regulator you will have slower smoother transistions (like when you start the car). The manufacturer of the regulator suggests you put one there so I figured I might as well!

Re: How about window roll-up via OEM remote ?

Hey all,

Ok, I received my KPTech window mod on Monday and immediately installed it that night. Unfortunately, I had one of the units w/ the capacitor in the faulty area so my door locks were freaking out. I followed the advice listed here, resoldered my capicitor into it's new (recommended) location, installed the diode, and it works like a champ. Windows go up and doors lock a few seconds after the ignition turns on. Very sweet. Now the only problem I'm having is finding people to be impressed by my mod. My girlfriend's only reaction was to roll her eyes. Not exactly the kind of response I was hoping for. My coworkers were equally impressed. Oh well...heheh

Kevin, please keep me posted on your recommended updates! Awesome job, bro! Thanks again!

Re: How about window roll-up via OEM remote ?

You think your girlfrind is unimpressed with the module? You should talk to mine about it! After being out of town all week then returning home to spend all weekend making my windows go up and down in my driveway has not earned me any boyfriend of the year award nominations.

Honestly though, she hates this project.

A lot.

If I return home to find my windows smashed out I think I'll knowp who did it!

It is good to hear that another unit has successfully been rebuilt to work. If you get a chance lower one window all the way and lower the other window half way and then try and put them up and see what happens. One tester has reported that when the first window reaches the top the other one stops moving! I think I have a solution for this problem, but I need to see if it is widespread bug or if his is just tempermental because it's owner frequently abandons it to sit on a couch on the beach.....

I'm not kidding, my girlfriend fails to see the benefits of this stellar mod!

Re: How about window roll-up via OEM remote ?

ive never abandoned it. i just found something else to do while i waited for you to come up with a solution to fix the problem. had the mod been built correctly the first time i would not have had to go and leave it aside. i think its goin to be a widespread bug as well not just mine. however i will work on mine tonight if i get some time but if not i will be able to do it when i get to jax in the late afternoon, so it wont be next weekend like i had said earlier.

also had you followed the voltage regulators instructions and put a cap on it, i would not have to fix these problems as well as emptying my bank account buying all these parts to fix the problem.

your just jealous that you have to be in cold philly and ohio weather. while im down here enjoyin the nice warm weather and beach.

dont hate the player, hate the game

i think im goin to have to change my thread to OEM Remote Window Up semi-fixed and installed instead of fixed and installed.

Yes, I am very jealous of your weather. I am sorry to cause you to spend $1.92 at RadioShack. I will remove you from the Beta testing list and charge you full price for all further modules.

Actually, I very grateful for your hard work and willingness to test the modules. I think though, I have made it very obvious that I wish I was able to do the actual testing. Stupid work!

I might have a Philly car!!!!
