I am going to try this out soon... I am 6'7" and have a 6mt coupe. I don't have any issues with the clutch / steering wheel... but if I hit a bump... my head hits the roof of the car... doesn't feel too good

Yea, funny... I made my first post in this thread before I bought my G...

 

I saw this resurrected thread the other day.
Doing my part to keep the dead alive!

Since it decided to stop raining I went out and did it. Took like 15min. Totally works. I'm 6'3", so my head was always touching the roof, even at the lowest seat setting. Now I can fit my hand between my head and the roof. I love the seating position too. Feels like you are sitting on the floor. NICE!!!

 

Glad someone found this. Took me 10 minutes, and worked great. Now I don't have to lean back so far.

 

It's not just for tall people. I'm 5'-5" and I never liked the G's seat. I rented a 350Z and immediately liked those seats. The G's seat when moved forward also seems to ramp up, so I never felt I could get it where I wanted.

I just did this adjustment (RussB's comment to use the 14mm wrench is a big help) and I think it's the right position now! Also I think the headrest is usable too with this simple adjustment. Haven't driven it yet, but just happy I made the seat better.

 

Isn't it amazing.

I also test drove a couple of 350z's and the seat in them was great. I was thinking about buying one when the Infiniti salesman said he had just gotten a new Coupe without a sunroof... the rest is history.

 

I can't wait to get home to try this

 

The only two concerns I'd have with this mod are

(1) Factory position restricts the seat from moving too low and cutting cables.
(2) Adjusting the factory positon allows greater leverage to be applied to bolt. Moment arms change. Bolts could break.

Some thoughts...

 

All concerns aside, I did thie mod just now. The seat fits so much more naturally now! Before my back just didn't seem to get any support from the top half of the back of the seat, now it feels natural. I got tired of hitting my head on the roof over bumps and I'm only 5'11", I don't know how our 6'7" friend fit at all!

One thing, there is a gold colored 12mm nut that holds a metal handle looking thing onto the rail. I took that off to have more room to work a larger set of pliers. I put it back on when I was done.

 

This is awesome. I held off for a few months from getting my G at all due to my 6'4" frame! I finally just said screw it and went with it. I cant WAIT to try this one out. I was starting to tell myself that it was not that bad but with this mod I am pumped. Thank you all for figuring this one out.

Did you get a premium with the sunroof? You loose almost 2" with it. The seat mod rules.

3)rotate counterclockwise (optional)

!)Green arrow is 'NUT', not really a nut though and a pain in the @$$ to turn
4)Rotate this nut so it moved all the way toward the front of the seat.

5)After you get the 'NUT' to move all the way front slide the washer (Green Arrow) all the way front, it should slide with some effort.

I got about a 1/4 inch from doing this. I was expecting more
