I think if you take apart the wheel, you should first know the torque specs used so you have the proper setting when you reinstall. The last thing you want is your hoop n tire to go in one direction while you try to drive on teh center portion.
Also, I think most Volks have annodized lips. If that's the case, I would avoid anything that is abrasive. Just do one wheel at a time with an annodize safe cleaner and take your time.

again, these wheels are anodized clear coated. if you polish them out, you'll see a burn mark where the spokes meet the labia. however, if you take them apart and polish them they won't be too bad. you will lose the look anodized gives off.
you can't use metal polish on the labias. it's the same treatment you would use on the exterior body of your car. clear coated surfaces.

Hey...sorry to see that. Try a clay bar. It will work just like it does on paint. I used it on my volks because they had a little rust and tar on them. It worked like magic, and didn't damage the rim. You can also get into the crevices pretty well because the clay molds into the surface. Good luck.
