Are my brakes bad?

Hey guys, nooby here love the site. I just bought a used 04 G35 Sedan and can't really tell if my brakes are bad or not. They are really touchy/grabby, (normal?) and sometimes have a sqeak when slowling letting off from a dead stop. But they do stop good, and I can't see any real wear on the rotors. Thanks.

Joseph

hey and welcome. it is normal for the brakes to be touchy like that. when you stop in a luxury car your gonna stop . but mine squeek a little depending on cold or rain. everything sounds fine but next time just do a little search. tons of info on this topic

Thanks for the reply. I figured it might be normal, but coming from a 91 Camaro to this is a huge difference. It has been rainy and cold here also every since I got the car.

Are those drilled and slotted rotors from oc auto sports a good upgrade for the street if I do need to replace them?

Don't mind wear on the rotors so much as wear on the pads. You need to pull a wheel on the front and the back and check pad thickness. You could possible have your "squealer" rubbing telling you the pads are low. It's in the pad design to give a sound when pad thickness drops to a certain point. Or you could just have a dirty pad and you need to wait for the sound to just go away after wearing the grit down that's making them squeal. I'd rather err on the side of caution and have the pads looked at.

The squeak is the give-a-way. Your "wear indicators" are telling you to have them checked. They make contact with the rotors when there is just a couple of mm left on the pads. They squeak to let you know to check them.

99% sure you'll need to just replace them.

anyone know if the oem 2006 g35 coupe pads have wear indicators? I have exactly 20,200 miles on mine but have heard no squeaking at all. i think just today I heard a scraping sound which may be the rotor. I don't want to get ripped off at midas when i take her in. Do front and rears usually wear out at the same rate?

ALL pads are required to have wear indicators now.

Well my pads are toast, and it seems like this was a comon problem in 03 and 04. So I'm gonna replace all the rotors and pads. But I was thinking of putting on some of the drilled and slotted rotors from OC Autosports. Has anyone tried these?

Are these just cheap, or a really good deal. The price just seems to good to be true. And will these have a longer life then the oem stuff?

Thanks

Those look really nice. I have seen them up to $60 cheaper, but you get what you pay for. I ended up with a cracked back rotor cause I went cheap.

Go for it.

Changing brakes every few months, being grabby, and squeaking sucks. If I could just git rid of that I'll be happy. But after reading about drilled and slotted disc I might have to reconsider. It seems like they have more disadvantages then advantages.

Just to update, I changed my front brakes to a 06 setup and I am really happy with the outcome. They aren't as touchy, the don't squeak, and just feel better. The swap was easy and I got the parts at the salvage yard for $150. I would definetly recomend this to anyone with the 03-04 brakes.
