Having trouble bleeding brakes with brake bleeder

Having trouble bleeding brakes with brake bleeder

So I bought a Mityvac brake bleeding kit (http://www.harborfreight.com/mityvac...ump-39522.html) and am having issues with suction/pressure.

I have to go though pumping the hand pump multiple times on every single wheel except the passenger front. Once I loosen the passenger front, the pressure drops very very slowly and it bleeds the entire brake in one shot.

Every other wheel I have to pump repeatedly only for just a tiny little bit of fluid to come out.

What could cause this?

Edit: I have an 06x

bleeder screw not opened all the way? check out http://speedbleeder.com/ those are the cheapest and fastest/easiest way that ive found.

Make sure you remove the master cylinder cap too

You have massive air in the lines.


If I were you, I'd ditch the system you have.

go to your nearest wal-mart or petsupermarket and get a air hose for fish tanks.

then get a cup from checkers or mcdonalds or wherever you can (get the lid too)

make a small hole in the lid so it can breath. and insert 1 end of the clear hose into the cup ALL THE WAY DOWN to the bottom.

Get the 10mm wrench and slide the hose through it (easier this way) and then connect the other end to the nipple of the bleeder screw.


OPEN the bleeder screw.


Start in this order:


REAR PASSENGER
REAR DRIVER
PASSENGER
DRIVER

MAKE SURE while you are bleeding each individual section that YOU DO NOT let the reserve tank go below minimum.

PUMP each section till you notice NO AIR in the clear hose.


Doing it this way will allow you to bleed the brakes without a second person, and also allow you to see if you had air in the system.

Bleeding Brake System




CAUTION:


•Carefully monitor brake fluid level at master cylinder during bleeding operation.
•Fill reservoir with new brake fluid "DOT 3". Make sure it is full at all times while bleeding air out of system.
•Place a container under master cylinder to avoid spillage of brake fluid.
•For models with ABS, turn ignition switch OFF and disconnect ABS actuator connectors or battery ground cable.





•Bleed air in the following order. Right rear brake -> Left front brake -> Left rear brake -> Right front brake
1.Connect a transparent vinyl tube to air bleeder valve.
2.Fully depress brake pedal several times.
3.With brake pedal depressed, open air bleeder valve to release air.
4.Close air bleeder valve.
5.Release brake pedal slowly.
6.Repeat steps 2, through 5, until clear brake fluid comes out of air breeder valve.

you always bleed from farthest from the master cylinder to the closest.

It was opened. How do you replace the bleeders? Just keep unscrewing and then pop in the new one?

I tried it both ways although I always thought the correct way was with the cap on to avoid more air entering the system.

RR
FL
RL
FR

The brake fluid reservoir cap needs to be off. Otherwise it is like trying to suck on a straw with the other side pinched off. If that still doesn't work, the threads on the bleeder screws may not be air tight anymore. New thread sealant will fix that.

Pressure bleeders are okay but slow and if you get a leak at the MS, the fluid goes all over the place.

I've done all ways and the most convenient 1 man system is a vaccum bleed using an hand pump. You should put teflon tape on the bleed screw threads but that's it.

^^^^ So just teflon tape, huh? Hmm, I guess I'll have to try that. I wonder why the front passenger wheel was perfect.

Is it worth just changing them out for OEM ones or? I already bought the handpump so if the speedbleeders are more money it would be pointless.

i tired the handpump once or twice but i gave up on the fast mainly because i found a 2nd person to do a 2-man style bleed.

You can get a vacuum bleed kit cheap. Actually you can use a vacuum pump that you can use for other diagnostics and buy a kit that you can use for brake bleeding.

How long are you going to go with inproperly bleed brakes? Or just two man bleed it.

I have a Mityvac, that wasn't the issue. My issue was not getting a seal when inserting the tubing on the bleed valve. I only recieved a tight seal on the front passenger bleed valve. Every other bleed valve wasn't creating a tight seal.

The pedal is a little bit soft but it was never horrible to begin with. I was changing the fluid as a matter of caution.
