Bilstein PSS10 or HKS III or Tein CS for comfort?
Bilstein PSS10 or HKS III or Tein CS for comfort?
Hey,
Just wondering if anybody has run through any of these or has them could give me their input on ride comfort and quality?
I'm looking for a little drop but don't want to sacrifice too much ride comfort. I know that I will have a little rougher ride with 20s but a drop is needed....and doing it right with coilovers seems to be the best option. Just read through the stickies, so these are what I came up with. I don't know about the BC coilovers either, but considering them.
Any other coilovers for a little drop and good ride quality? Any help would be great!
Thanks!

You might want to poke around in here, but my suggestion would be the Tanabe Pro5s. I have them and comfort was #1 criteria in purchasing coils and these have not disappointed one bit. Numerous Driver members have ridden in my car and will verify my claim.

@ Blue Dream: lol I've seen you around praising those coilovers ahaha. I'll look into those coilovers, I'm basically basing these "comfortable" coilovers on price now. I've seen that sticky actually, it's what helped me get to this point. Thanks!

coming from a 03 Sport Basics/Tanabe/Megan basically the standard 10/8 rate will be the same level of comfort. Tad stiffer but all the same IMO. The Tanabe's are wonderful coils BTW I've known members with tanabes on their Gs for years now without a problem.

I've heard that Tein Basics were horrible, and I just know the Megan coilovers are cheap but I've yet to read on them some more.
Thanks!

I was speaking in terms of ride quality only in comparison to what you have now (stock).
TEINs are horrible mainly because of their horrible reputation of 'sqeeking' or going bad in the rear >.< Also you do not get damper adjustments with TEIN.
Megan are 'cheaper' but have always been a good choice for us.Tanabe pro 5s are also a great choice in coilovers. BCracing is another great choice.

Looking at the shock dyno's that I have for the Bilstien and Tanabe Pro5. The Bilstein has simular valving at full soft. Couple that with the Bilsteins softer spring rates and it will have a better ride quality. BUT, should you ever begin to turn up the damping, the Bilstien goes wrong. It changes things you don't want changed and doesn't change what you DO want changed. Granted, past half way the Tanabe's compression damping get's ubsurdly high. At can at least turn them up half way and get good control. Not so with the Bilstein product.
Bottom line. Bilstein will ride better if kept at full soft vs any setting you can set the Tanabe's too. But, you'd have to keep them at that setting. Which isn't for everyone.

I tested the Megan product. Horrible at all settings. Too much spring in the front and awfull valving. Only reason I did not put them in the dumpster was becasue I bought softer front springs and tested them again. It was the only way I could honesty resell them vs going stright into the trash can.

Megan that bad huh? Well, I guess "you get what you pay for" comes into play here.

First of all I want to say I'm in no way affiliated for Tanabe.
That being said don't beat your head up against the wall. I went through the same process as you are and literally spent 6 months researching. PM b2autodesigns for a price on the Tanabes and pull the trigger. There isn't a better set of coils out there that are comfortable for the price. Blows away BC, Megan, and all the other "budget" coils. You'll be relieved you don't have to spend more hours wading through reviews and changing your mind over and over. That way they'll be on the way and on your car sooner than you can say lickety split.
If you want another opinion PM ThatOneDude, he just put them on a coupe and is very happy with them as well.
