D-spec Suspension Rattle Help

I have D-Specs installed with sedan sports springs on my 05. The problem I am having is that there is a rattle going over certain bumps coming from my front left. Its a deeper sounding, thud like rattle. It doesn't happen on all bumps but usually sharper ones and ruffer roads, also going at a higher speed I do not usually here the rattle.

I have taken it back to the installers (well known does a lot of Gs and Zs), and they have taken it apart. First they said it could be because the D-spec was not compressing properly. But putting it back together they got it to mostly go away. Well, they said to monitor it if it comes back. It did come back though not as loud as before. I called Tokico to see what they think and they are in the belief that there is no way the shock can cause that kind of noise. And if it is a compression problem it is either working or not, so the noise should not change.

The rattle came on suddenly as if something came loose. Maybe it had something to do with the alignment I got later on? Or maybe inproper spring seating?
On a side note, I swear I hear the same type of sound in rear as well, but is more subdued and happens less only on certain bumnps (or if I have passengers in the back I notice it more). The front is much louder and very noticeable. I don't want to believe that all the D-specs I got have faults which seems unlikely.
Any suggestions to what it could be would be appreciated.

Damn. I swear I have that same sound coming from my front right after my revised Z spring/strut install. It's sooooooooo annoying. I feel like I'm damaging something. I have almost no clue as to waht it is, I can only guess/assume it's this or that but I'm still not right. If you ever find out the fix please let me know!!!

my d-specs nor any part of the sus make any noise on my coupe.

perhaps your front endlink bolt is coming loose on the swaybar....or they
forgot to torque it down. also check to see if the a-arms are tight.

also check your lugs on your wheels... sometimes they back out unless
you re-torque after 5-10miles.

Thanks for the suggestions. Will check on them.

Have new tires just installed, that did not change the situation, so that at least can be ruled out.

I am just hoping to avoid bringing it back to the installer and they will want to warrenty the D-spec which may not fix anything.

^^WHS^^
The end links are often the culprit.

There is a nut under the rubber boot which has to be held with a spanner,
in order to torque it properly.

Any fix ac1? I still haven't been able to pinpoint my suspension noise. It's driving me crazy. Doesn't seem to be swar bar endlinks, I tightened them again. Nor any bracing in the lower control arm area, or brake components, or top mount(in engine bay) of strut. What else? I really need help.

The sound you describe sounds like my car did when the front sway bar end link came loose. Check the end links!

I tried tightening the end link, which did help with the noise. But it only helped for a bit. When I had my friend in the front passenger seat, it came back. I am guessing the extra weight put more stress on the end link.
I am going to have to take it to a different dealership and ask them to check it and torque all (both sides) of it properly, basically to fix it whatever the cost. I am wondering if there is something wrong with the end link however.

Wow, I have the same thing from the left front only. Kind of a hollow knock going over small, sharp bumps (like pavement gaps) only at slower speeds (less than 35). I did my install myself so was paranoid I screwed up a ball joint or something. I took the whole thing apart and re-installed. I did not take the spring off the shock though, but everything appeared normal. No improvement. I had my car in recently for brakes and had the dealer check everything. They couldn't find anything, and thought it might even be my windshield replacement - clueless dealer strikes again. My rattle came right after my spring/shock install, so there is no way its the endlink. I did later install a Stillen sway with no change to the knock. Which D-Spec are you guys running? I am using the sedan shock with 03 Z spings, so I'm thinking that's the issue. During the install, I was concerned about how much to tighten the top shock nut, which compresses the spring. I tightened the nut as far as it would go, thinking it would be necessary since the spring is shorter than the sedan spring the shock was designed for. I wonder if washers are necessary to further compress the spring even more? I wouldn't think so though since the spring seemed sufficiently tight. Or maybe back off the nut, to uncompress the spring a bit? I may do some trial an error at some point, but I just got an allignment and don't want to screw it up, and I'm moving on to some bigger mods, so the knock may have to wait. I was going to contact Tokico as well. Seems odd we all have it in the front left, maybe just a case of that's where we hear it since that's where we sit. I'll pm Gsedan35, maybe he has some idea. Between all of us, maybe we can figure it out, because it has taken some of the joy out of this mod.

geeitup.

I have that sound coming from my front right. However, I only swapped my OEM sedan sport susp. to the revised Z suspension (struts & springs front and rear). What's the deal???? I even checked the sway endlinks and they were right and fully tightened. They didn't look odd in any way. This is really annoying. I think I'm going to have to get the dealership to inspect things also. I was really hoping it was endlink nonsense but it isn't. Could a blown strut sound like that? What does a blown strut sound like anyway? The only thing I know about blown struts/shocks is that if there's is EXTRA traveling/bouncing after you go over bumps then it's gone. Damn G35. Any other inputs?

I have the same sound coming from my rear wheels. Started just after I had D-Specs installed. I was planning to replace my HNR springs with the stock springs to see if that helped. Any other suggestions?

I had rattle at low speed, went away after 35mph & back again when I slowed down.
Found out when the Tech tightened down the lug nuts he broke a lug, but it did not fallout, just layed there & rattled at low speed. High speed it was held in place by centrifical force.

I had this problem too... but it's been a while and I haven't heard it.. maybe I just got use to it? I'll go listen to it later...
But I just wanted to see if you ever found the source of your problem or corrected it...

Did find the problem. Had my end links and everything checked by the dealer twice both times the dealer said it was the strut.
It looks like the Tokicos are having a problem with the shaft of the strut loosening, which after this much time has been confirmed with my installer since I am not the only one.
Well even though they tightened the shaft, mine does not stop the noise anymore since it has progressed to be cosiderably louder in the last few weeks. So it has been swapped out and sent to Tokico for warrenty repair. Putting back the OEM struts has stopped the rattle sound.
