Need offer advice (possible purchase tomorrow!)

I'm looking at the following G35.

2006 G35 6MT, Premium, Aero, XM, Cargo Mat. Diamond Graphite on Graphite/Black Interior (Aluminum finish). I am in North Florida. This car still has the plastic wrap on it.

I went in yesterday and the salesman said he could do better than Edmund's FMV pricing.

MSRP = $38,280
Edmunds FMV = $37,533
Invoice = $35,030

Sales Tax = 7%
Tag Transfer about $125

I am considering offering $1000 over invoice + TTL which puts the offer at $38645.00 (36000+2520+125). I am paying cash and I plan to walk into the dealership with a bank check for the total out-the-door price. If they choose to add some dealer fee they can take it out of the car sales price.

Is that a fair offer for both sides? I want to avoid hours of hassle and just finish the deal but I don't want to get screwed.

Advice?

no way, $1k over invoice is tooo much. you should be able to get invoice +- 200/300 bucks.

the dealer makes 3% on these vehicles in holdbacks from infiniti, so don't think what you pay over invoice is the only profit they're making!

depends on whether you finance or pay straight up.

i usually start at OTD (out the door) at $500 below sticker and work from there. on previous purchases i can usually get OTD around sticker price.

another approach i have heard of, but have never tried is telling the stealership you are going to finance (that way they can actually give you a better price because they can make some $$$ with finance charges), get the price in writing and then tell them the next day you found the money and write the check. i have one friend who did that and got a VW jetta for a bargain.

good luck. you will love the car

If I offered $38K out the door, that would end up around $350 over invoice.

Think they'll say yes? I plan to walk in with a check and leave if they won't do it. I'll make that immediately clear.

New Gc................

Offer them $35,5 and if they won't accept that WALK!
They'll be chasing ya down in the parking lot.....
I did this buying my Z and the sales manager ask me
"Are you on a budget"? It's fun to play if you know
their game! Don't even think of paying MSRP of
$38......it's late in the year and the '07 are just
around the corner!

I went to talk about an 06 g35 coupe 6MT today with the premium package, rear active steering, XM radio, navigation, and spoiler (said msrp was 40,300) and I talked him to $39,000. Did I do good or how much better could I get? I looked at Edmunds TMV (true market value) is listed at $39,903 with all these options, it also says invoice with these options: $37,236. That gives the dealer $1764 profit or 4.5% profit I believe if I'm doing the calculations correct.

Yeah, don't initially offer $1k over. I'm sure the dealer would gladly take it. You need to start low like $200.

Also don't to forget mention several times that you have cash in hand, ready to buy. That gave me quite a bit more negotiating power imho
