Unlike the other guys around here i love mustangs. It all depends on what you are trying to accomplish though. A mustang and a g35 cant be compared they are two different breeds. A stang is the throw you back in your seat torque bucket that does easy burnouts and has that amazing growl. The g35 is a more controlled slide around turns and peppy type feel. Owning both i love both. The only factor that plays into the decision is the look of the g. Its not as common as the mustang and gets noticed more especially once you start debadging and modding the exterior. If your looking for the easiest to make some more hp though i would take the stang. Bigger and cheaper aftermarket for parts.

Oh and for around 20k you can buy an 03-04 cobra and put an exhaust, intake and chip and have over 450 to the wheels.

This is a bad place to ask about something like this. Obviously, any response you are going to get is going to be biased towards the G35 since last time i checked this *is* a G35 forum.

alot of biased answers here. here is my .02, I owned new 87GT with optional 3.08 axle 5 spd. this car would run 14.0 ohs with only the under air box removed, one degree advance, K&N filter. my 03 coupe 6mt would lose 0-100 no doubt in my mind. the "G" is too heavy.

ive had both and they are completely different.... the G is going to stay together alot longer than the mustang, especially if you beat on it.... my 03 GT had 50k on the clock and the 5spd was shot to hell. the G is a highway warrior and can go 115 and feel like youre standing still..... 115 in a mustang is literally terrifying... Mustang has gobs of torque and sounds like a monster with a good exhaust on it... its all about what you are looking for..

response to Austin: I see you drive a slush box, probably since are you obviously tough on manual trans. My 87 Mustang GT with 5 speed and 3:08 optional gears was a terrifying event alright. It was so intoxicating that you couldn't wait to stop at the next red light to destroy the next would be contender. This car with its 3:08 Axle was able to use its fith gear and would easily reach 148MPH anytime. The standard car with its 2:73 was too tall to use fifth gear. When I traded my GT in with 55000 miles it was like new in every respect. This car is tough and bulletproof. you can not kill unless like you said abuse it. I still own a GT with a cleveland 4V and this is also a intoxicating car to drive. I have been on Ford forums for over 23 years and your response about the Mustang would be laughed at. I obviously own a G35 coupe now with 6MT as I think it respresents the best value for the money...and so far it has not broke. The following is what Road and Track thinks of 350z long term."A few rattles have developed in the dash. But my biggest problem has been the low bodywork on the front end and its continuing love affair with all the curbs in town," wrote an owner from Bonita Springs, Florida.

But some of the Z's issues were of a more substantial nature. Window lifts failed on a high percentage of the cars in our survey. The factory sound system was problematic; in our long-term test, we thought the Bose system had horrible sound quality, but noted that Nissan installed an updated amplifier under warranty that improved the quality. Significant numbers of the owners replaced brake rotors and performed brake jobs before hitting the 25,000-mile mark. A tad premature, though probably understandable given that the cars invite hard driving.

It didn't make our 5-percent threshold, but the transmission needed to be replaced on quite a number of our survey respondents' cars — as it did on R&T's own long-term test car when 5th gear started "crunching" with every shift. A small number of owners — again, fewer than 5 percent — complained of excessive oil burning from the Z's V-6 engine. A Nissan spokesman told that us the problem afflicted some 2005–2006 cars equipped with manual transmissions and that there is a factory fix.

Then there was the 350Z's tire issue. High numbers of our survey respondents had to replace their car's tires and perform wheel alignments before reaching 25,000 miles — many before reaching 10,000 miles. Front tires would prematurely wear or "feather" on the inside edges, particularly on 2003–2004 cars. The feathering caused the tires to howl at speed. Wrote an owner from Ottawa, Ontario, Canada: "The tires were replaced under warranty after a year due to improper factory setup, leading to road noise and tread wear. Unfortunately, the problem has returned

A stock 2005 Mustang GT will walk a lightly modded and tuned G35. But the thing won't handle for sh*t.

There's no replacement for displacement!

Im not sure what the Transmission in the 80s mustangs were like... but the one in my 03 (TR3650) was a piece of crap... you say youve been on the forums for a while but if you go search TR3650 on Mustangforums.com you will get nothing but comments like noisy, and lots of slack in the transmission, throwout bearings going out all the time.. im just speaking from my experience. you say your mustang saw 148 all the time....im sure it did, it may not have been the most stable 148. i was simply comparing the stability between the 2 cars at high speed.

Dont get me wrong, i miss that car everyday and it was a blast to drive... everything i said in my last post was from experience. i plan on building up one later in life when i can afford to do it, but right now it just doesnt make sense...

First post, here goes:

My two choices were a 6MT G35 coupe or an 06+ mustang. I am a mustang guy from way back and have owned many... but since the last one I had 2 Audis, a VW, and an Acura NSX... not to mention that my wife likes the luxo SUV's... so bells and whistles and comfort items have become important.

The Mustang interior is rubbish compared to the G. It doesn't offer the little conveniince items like steering wheels controls, heated seats, leather standard, etc. Interior, hands down goes to the G.

As far as performance, I was very disappointed test driving the Mustnag. It felt heavy, sluggish, and too loud for the given performance. It seemed to lack the real grunt of the older Fox Mustangs. It also just felt too big... you could sleep a family of four on the hood!

The G felt a touch slower in a straight line, but coming off a highway ramp around a 360 curve made me see how much the mustang was lacking in the corners. Very nice.

Funny sidenote, I tested a G before I got the NSX, and back then I felt the G to be a little sluggish in a straight line... still had fun in the corners though. Only reason I bailed on the NSX was the arrival of a kid. Teh G has plenty of backseat for him.

All in all, it would have to be a special edition mustang like a roush or saleen for me to look that direction again...

My .02 FWIW.

Rob
