Buying a G35. Found one - is it a keeper?

You may have seen me around asking noobish questions while I shop for a G35.

I found a 2006 6mt with ~73k miles. Visually inspecting it, it needs some paint due to fading (front DS fender) and a few small rock chips/scratches (no dents). Also needs some interior work (cracked dash, small cracks in leather seats, and some peeling "leather" on armrests and steering wheel - these interiors are crap...).

Clean carfax - no accidents, three owners.

I took it to Infinity for a thorough once-over mechanically, and I'm told that it needs front brakes, fog light bulbs (or possible electrical issue there), rear side marker bulbs and possibly a clutch and flywheel replacement (although this could be an aftermarket C/FW that just feels stiffer).

Notes also said "valve timing solenoid dtc's noted in history - possibly due to low oil but not verified".

They quoted me ~$4k to repair all of that, but I will likely take it to Z1 in GA (they did most of the work on my 94 TTZ32 a few years ago).

I understand that it's a 9 year old car, and that wear-and-tear items will need to be replaced (brakes, etc). Do you veterans see anything to be super concerned about on this that I missed, or would you be inclined to take the deal (it's the right price at $13k)?

I have until this evening to decide if I'm taking the deal or not.

Thanks, all!

Variable valve timing issue Likely because of s dying sensor. The price tag is too high IMO... And Infiniti has laughable repair costs, to do all of those things yourself minus the clutch is $500 at best. Clutch replacement would be a bit out of an oil change DIYer's reach of replacements.

So not enough to scare you away from the car?

Yep. Sport pkg with the forged Rays, 6mt, orange stitched steering wheel, etc.

I agree. Labor on the clutch replacement will run you about $500. An OEM clutch and oem flywheel will be about $1140 should you decide to go that route.

Good to know - thanks!

There's no way I'm taking it to the dealer for that (or really any) work, anyway. Not only are they overpriced, but the techs only seem to really know anything about current models. If your car is five years or older, you tend to get a lot of vacant stares when you ask model specific questions...

I guess my real question is, given the above info, would you be comformable buying it?

Thanks again, all!

Well, let me put it this way. I have an 05 6MT with 101K miles, always garaged kept, and it is in much better condition than this one. If i were to sell it, I would ask $14k.

Good point of reference - thank you.

This seemed fair due to most of the low milage (75k and under), 2006/2007 and relatively clean G35s are going for $14k-$16k on average. I even looked at one that I passed on that was $15k and beat to hell. Maybe you could ask more for yours, haha.

Any other opinions? Sorry to "bump" the thread, but I only have another few hours to decide what to do and you guys are the only experts I know.

I'm leaning towards taking it. Honestly, my biggest qualm is the interior. Just feels a bit on the cheap side coming from my 530i (which was nice, but not perfect). I'm sure there are some that are in a bit better shape, but it's probably more of a build quality issue that I'd have to tackle at some point anyway.

Thanks for your thoughts and opinions, guys!

I'd leave it alone and keep looking. If you're up to it ...

http://www.kijiji.ca/b-cars-trucks/o...r-sale-by=ownr

80000 kms is 50000 miles, so 160000kms is 100000 miles. The deals in Canada may be worth considering since you're $ gives you about a 20% discount.

Regardless, GL with your search.

Thanks! Canada's a bit of a logistical hassle for my circumstances. Appreciate the thought, though.

Anyone else have an opinion? Thanks, all!

Stay away. Price is way too high, especially for those problems. That interior if you want to rebuild it will cost you a ton of money if you buy stuff new and a ton of time if you wanna piece it together used.

Just for reference, I just had to replace my clock trim piece (2004 dash finisher), obviously all "dealer only" parts inside, and that shitty piece of plastic cost me $116. Replace a dash? Nah, I'm good.
