Hey Shane,
Was there any issue with overspray on the paint?

I used it on the gutted interior of the RX-7 so I didn't really notice...make sure you wear a respirator though. I figured I'd be ok since the car was outside and it was windy but I've been hacking the rest of the day.

If car companies starting giving out repaints or body panels to everyone with rust in the chip 75% of the cars on the road would make claims on it. It's a fact of life; same as you're told to change your oil every 5k km you should probably check for chips every few weeks and hit them with primer.

Corrosion warranties are made to protect against a manufacturer defect, which is true of almost all warranties. That means rust from the inside out, or rust which starts to bubble with no chip.
I realize this is an older thread but I recently found bubble rust on the front fender of my 2003.5 G35. The first time a saw it was a few months back and it was very slight. Then a month later it grew and is now in two spots in close proximity. Its not surface rust just where the steel is exposed (I have seen this on my other cars). Its more like the rust corrosion. Now let me say I have a 95 Maxima that has been sitting outdoors for over 10 years and never garaged. It has no rust. The G has always been garaged. I can't imagine that this would not be covered by the damn warrentee. If its not , it will be my first and last Infiniti. I'll be visiting the dealer soon and if he gives me any rock chip bull$hit, I'll be throwing rocks.

Regarding your last statement, if the rust is now a bubble that has damaged the paint, how could one ever see it started as a chip?

I have the same thing, and infiniti said that everycar will have paint chiping of their car, that is inevitable and that infiniti knows this thats why the warranty wont cover any repairs since they know they would have to constantly be painting panels to maintain them brand new condition....sounds like a bunch of BS to me, but i threw a temper tantrum lol and that didnt work...so if anyone knows how to get infiniti to pay for paint chips let us know...

I don't know what to tell you; I am just being realistic. In 99.99999% of the cases rust is formed then bare metal is exposed due to damage; in your case it sounds like a stone chip - unfortunately you had the opportunity to stop the rust from becoming and issue and didn't, and now it is.

Regarding my last statement - you can't tell for sure, but it should be rather obvious; almost all "corrosion" starts from the inside, rust that is the result of a chip starts from the outside. If the rust on your car is on the outside of the panel only then it is likely the paint was damaged and the rust started.

That's the point, it isn't BS. I don't get what you guys don't understand about this. Cars are driven, when they have paint damage due to being driven rust can form. If a car company covered rust as a result of damage infilcted while you were driving the car they would literally all be bankrupt from paint claims. Seriously, do you expect a manufacturer to re-paint your panels every time you get a scratch? Do you expect them to repair your leather when your belt buckle tears through it? If you curb your rims should they fix it? Let's be reasonable.

You're required to bring the car in for an oil change, right? Do you? I assume yes. So here; next time you bring it in add 5 minutes to the trip and walk around the car with a paint pen and dab some paint on any chips you see. Problem solved; it's part of car ownership.

If its just surface rust, scrub it off and use touchup paint.

Otherwise, you have rust warranty for 5-6 years?.. take it into the dealership

The paint chipping on the front bumper and hood is one thing (I still think its far worse then any car I ever owned but that is not what I am talking about). This is on the side of my front fender about 6 inchs from the corner light. If it was like the hundred other blemishes on the front end, I would simply do the touch up thing. The damage I have cannot be simply touched up, the surface is rough where the metal and paint have "bubbled" . There is even evidence of the paint showing pin head size bubbles where there is no damage to the paint.

AnyhowI did visit the dealer on Friday who said the procedure was to sends pictures directly Infinti who would make the call. Wanted to know if car was every in an accident or repaint, which it did not. I told them I wanted to meet personally with the Infiniti rep if they did not acknowledge responsibilty.

Let me clarify one point. I fully understand that paint chipping is normal but what is NOT NORMAL if for the underlying metal to rust so badly so quickly. I have a 36 year old car and a 19 year old car that has surely had a chip or 2 during its lifetime. The underlying metal may have gotten surface rust but it did not nearly rust through like this POS.

2003.5 G35 6MT Brillant Black (rust)
Others in the stable
1970 GS 455 Stage 1 Four Speed (no rust)
1987 Grand National (23K mile) Original owner (no rust)
1995 Maxima (no rust!)
2001 GMC Yukon XL SLT (no rust)
2006 Charger SRT 8 6.1 LTR 425 HP

My wife's 2000 Caravan showed bubbles and rusting in the rear wheel well. When I looked inside the well, there were actal layers of metal that had seperated and rusted. We went to the dealership and they also took pictures and sent them away. Well, two weeks later, we got a call that they would cover the repairand do the rear quatrer panel. So, best of luck, it does work out for the consumer sometimes.

Heard back from the dealer last week and Infiniti AGREED this rust was not simply chip related and they are paying to have it fixed. They may replace the whole fender and repaint the entire nose, so if any one is experiencing a rust condition on your G35 (and I don't mean surface rust from paint chips) bring it to your deal and demand it be covered as part of the basic anti corrosion warentee. These are suppose to be quality cars and they are too new to be rusting!!!

For anyone experiencing rust issues on the front fender like me, you may be interested to know that Infiniti not only agreed to pay for the repair but today the dealer informed me that they authorized a complete fender replacement. Doubt they would do that if there was not an underlying problem.
