That's OK, I figured that you deviated along there.
I'd come down through Bigelow & past Sugarloaf Mountain etc, it might be a really nice drive.

I have been on that route before but it's been about 10+ years. There are a lot of very nice routes through Longfellow and White Mountains. Some of the most fun driving I've had has been through there.

LOL. That's a bit further south than you're planning but you may catch some of it.

Don't wear that thing out before you get to Cape Breton.

Good stuff Ian, you are literally just a couple of minutes from my house. You'll have a Kents, Atlantic Superstore, Canadian Tire, and Liquor Store all just a couple of minutes away. I forgot to mention that the Rothesay Police station is next door to the Amsterdam Inn.

Your M will definitely be safe, but I definitely wouldn't be trying any donuts.

On a side note, I will be working the week that you arrive here however I'll probably work from home. Let me know what your interests are and I can suggest a couple of local sights to visit.

It is 3 different properties over the 3 nights and may be worth a look. It would be convenient for our travel plans with perhaps the first night at Dundee enroute to the Trail or the last night with a shorter drive home. Facilities can be booked however we want. It is a very nice facility and has a great golf course/new clubhouse on the property. (no, I won't be golfing ) The Ceilidh Country Lodge is in centrally located Baddeck and across the street from Inverary (access to those facilities/dining/water). I have stayed at Ceilidh and it is a standard motel facility. At Glenghorm they want an upgrade of $29 for the rustic cottages.

They don't have the rates set yet for the low season days we're planning. I called for information and the person I need to speak to is out until Monday. If there is interest in this plan I will pursue trying to use my contacts to see if we can work out any kind of deal or flexibility with the rooms/cottages.

I have a few other suggestions I'll provide staying on the 2/2 theme if there isn't interest in this package above.
Okay, spoke to the supervisor at Cape Breton Resorts. This package will be made available on the dates we need June 29, 30 July 1 & 2. It's all still high season which starts June 16. The price is slightly less than posted at $489 or $526 if we want to stay at the Inverary instead of the Ceilidh. Both are basic for the standard rooms, breakfast is available at Ceilidh but full dining rooms etc are at Inverary. (We may be on the road anyhow) The nights at Baddeck have to be consecutive which we would likely want anyhow. Payment is made in full at time of booking but is fully refundable up to 7 days in advance of stay. Any upgrades to rooms/cottages etc anyone wants can be handled at time of booking. H and I would plan to go with the standard rooms.

If we want this package I will make a group reservation and everyone will call my contact at the 1800 number and pay/book on their own.
I suggest we stay at the Dundee the first night, Ingonish the second, loop the trail and the last two nights at Baddeck which is centrally located and slightly closer for the trek off the Island. From Baddeck we can re explore the trail, other parts of CB, whatever the consensus is... Or does anyone have any other ideas on the route?

Questions:

1. yes or no to this package
2. what nights at what locations
3. room choices
4. inverary or ceilidh at Baddeck

EDIT: here's the package again

The Island Explorer - 2008

This four night package includes accommodations a three of our resorts on the Island that gives you the opportunity to experience everything from the Bell Museum, golf at Bell Bay to Fortress of Louisbourg and Dundee Resort.
Package inlcudes:
2 nights at Ceilidh Country Lodge
1 night at Glenghorm Beach Resort
1 night at Dundee Resort
2 Cape Breton Island Explorer t-shirts

NOTE: this package includes accommodations only. Each property can provide info on costs & locations of activities.

July 1 - Oct 31 only

Wow, I have a lot of info to check over now that I finally got my own computer up and running. I wound up getting another monitor (my Samsung LCD was only 3 years old and it went kaput).

Thanks for gathering up the info Deane and Shane. We will be checking it out tonight.

In reply to the package Deane set up, which was:
"I suggest we stay at the Dundee the first night, Ingonish the second, loop the trail and the last two nights at Baddeck which is centrally located and slightly closer for the trek off the Island. From Baddeck we can re explore the trail, other parts of CB, whatever the consensus is... "

It sounds great Deane

To answer your 4 questions:

1. yes or no to this package-Yes sounds good
2. what nights at what locations- Your plan above sounds great to us
3. room choices- Standard, but I will have to ask for ground floor for Karen (because of her knee replacement)
4. inverary or ceilidh at Baddeck- either is fine with us
