so lets say i have ordered a set of rims that are 18x8.5, now i need tires.
so i am thinking 245/40 or 45/18.
what do u guys think of that size what one would look better on a non lowered sedan. should i be thinking about another size....
i am looking for summer tires only.
next question who has the best deals out there?

non lowered sedan..
i would go with 245/40/18 maybe 255 on the rear?
- -i think 45 on ur car would be too high... i may be wrong.

If you are trying to match the OE specs of a 17" wheel and 215/55 tires best bet is a 235/45/18 tire. That's almost exactly the same diameter-.06% larger. The next best is a 245/45/18 which is 1.41% larger diameter all around and well within the accepted 3% differential so there should be no problems with VDC or ABS etc. That's probably nice to fill the wells a touch more on non lowered car.
The 245/40/18 is too small a diameter although maybe someone on here has some direct experience with trying this set up. You would need to run a 19" 235/40 for that size tire to match OE. Staggered set up is only for the coupe.

would there be a difference between a 40 and a 45 sidewall? 40 might end up being easier to come by. but 45 would fill up the wheel gap more.... i think i want 245 for the width anyways. more traction for the track.

245/45 all around would be my choice Bill
255/40 all around would also work and looks good, but I know you want to keep the weight down a bit for the track.

i have an 03 coupe , with stock rims the stock set-up is 245/45/18 , know i want to up grade to 255/45/18 , has any1 done that or is it possable , midas says no it well rub but i have seen 285 on the rear set-up with no problems , but then againg i am still useing my stock rims

You need to plug the OE tire size into a calculator, & try to keep the diameter of the new tire as close as possible to original.Originally Posted by rocco.p

Then you need to look up the tire data to see if it matches your wheel width.
e.g. Tirerack tables.
^that's what I looked at for reference On an 18" the 235/45 is the closest to OE and the 245/45 is a little larger but should be okay. The 8.5" will work perfectly with either. The 40's don't really match up on an 18" wheel.
thanks alot guys, it now looks like i am going with 245/45/18 for sure now! now to find a set of 4 for cheap as possable hahaha
