Hey all,

As you may be aware (or not), the last scheduled space shuttle launch is due to take off on the 16th of September. I've never seen a launch live, so I figure this is my last chance. I'm planning to head down a day or two before, hang out for a bit in the nice climate, give my new DSLR a workout. I figure this would also be a good chance to possibly meet up with some Florida G club members, but at this point I'm trying to get some feelers to see if anyone would be interested before I go into organization mode.

What do you think?

Awesome idea. We may be going to Florida this fall, but not in time for the launch. That would be right at the beginning of my kids' school year. Have fun, Jimmy!!

 

So far just looking at having a day before, the launch day, and then maybe 2 days max after in case it gets delayed a bit. I plan on driving straight through, bringing my best bud as a co-pilot to share the driving duties. Obviously if there is enough interest I might look at sorting out a stop in between at a hotel and try to get a discount rate. That said, I only have 3 goals while I'm down there:

1. Watch/take pictures of the launch
2. Try to meet up with Florida G members, try and do some photo shoots in cool Florida places maybe?
3. Go to Miami and maybe even the Keys, because I've been to Florida 7 times, and never been outside of Orlando and St. Petersburg/Tampa Bay

I'd like to check out some outlet malls, and whatnot if there is time, I'm going to Disney in March so I'm not really concerned with that. Don't really know what else is going on.

As I said before, I'm just putting feelers out, and I'm totally open to suggestions.

Additionally, on a separate tangent, I'd be interested in looking into a road trip to go see the Leafs play somewhere next season (other than in Canada, because I've already driven coast to coast).

 

This is a pretty cool idea. Assuming no delay to the launch, it would fall on my b-day. I might bring this up with my friends and make it into a mini vacation but at this point it's too early.

 

As I mentioned before, this is still in the figment stage, I just wanted to get the idea out there so that if people were interested, they could try to make plans accordingly. As opposed to bringing it up a week before the launch :P

 

Sounds like a fun idea! I would be up for this but I get married a week before. Somehow I don't think the wife will me go for this one :P
