I happen to do my research recently on this topic as well and found two reliable sources in my opinion

The unsettling thing is that I have seen threads here, as well as BMW, M-B & Porsche forums where guys have fractured wheels after PC.
Usually after wheels have seen more stress than you would see for normal DD. (at the track etc)
It's interesting about the BBS comments.
It could be the way the PC was done how much heat etc.
Wheels (used) could have had prior imperfections that were exacerbated by the process.
Too many variables and no conclusive data.
BUT, there's just too many of these occurrences for me to feel comfortable about the process.

I would be inclined to go with a quality paint job + clear coat.
