I had to rub it off with goo-gone and it made matters worse. I used touch up paint to cover it up. It's not a pretty sight. Now i have to find a body shop to fix what supposed to be an easy job.

haha i did the exact same thing. if you were to ever look at my g35 badge, you can see that its crooked...the "G" is super glued on..um..now i dont think i can ever get it off F**k...but watever. i'll get around to fixing it some other time when some stranger points it out to me haha.

diluted alcohol can be used to strip wax/glaze etc etc. no harm to your finish

when I debadge, I use a hair dryer and floss to remove the emblem. than I use a light polish to remove the glue via DA polisher or hand.

I found this to be the safest method

WD-40 safely removes adhesive residue (along with any wax!). Wonderful stuff!

I just used the hairdryer method..........The longer you leave it on the easier they come off........Then used goof off or oop's, both adhesive removers will work....
And dont forget to wax when done.......But if you do have swirls and if there is alot of embedded dirt behind the emblems you want to:

1. wash the area you will be waxing...
2.get some sorta paint cleaner, I like meguires....clean the area
3.Use some polish, again cant go wrong with meguiers
4.finish up by waxing the suface.............

You might need to use the paint cleaner a few times depending how long the letters have been on............But follow these steps and you should be a happy camper............

Oh and a buffer will save you some wrist pains later...........And if ur an unexperienced buffer, just buy a electric one that they have at autozone.........They work real light and wont strip ur clearcoat..........

As far as the debadging debate, I think it simply looks cleaner on some colors. It's not like someone is putting an AMG logo on a non-AMG car or putting an M3 logo on a 318i. It looks cleaner on some colors. I had this thought one day driving to work looking at cars after I bought my G. Why does every car need so many badges and logo. Status for some, but mostly it's free advertising for the manufacturers. A logo on the grill, one, two or three on the back, one on each wheel and sometimes more on each side. Black cars look good without badges. I don't think these people are trying to disguise their car as something else I think they are simply seeking a different look. I'm not into free advertisement for anyone ( unless it's me ), dealership or Manafacturer, but without the infiniti logo it would simpy look too plain, so I'd never remove it. The Infiniti letters though are over kill in my opinion, why have them? Doesn't the logo say enough. It does for many other mfgr with chrome oval logos.

To remove the scratches, I'd just use some polishing compound and do by hands. Don't cut through the clear coat, which can be done if you press too hard. Clean off after a few passes to see if you have accomplish your mission. If not, go back and hit it again, lightly. It will work like a champ. Once you get the hang of it you can do it for any minor scuff or scratch and your car will remain showroom new looking for year.
