SCRATCH REMOVED!!! Good Product!

I hate all the fake products that claim to remove scratches!!!!

The other day some stuff got kicked up by a truck and after I washed the car I noticed it scratched my car! I had a couple light scratches on my motorcycle also so I decided it would be worth some effort to try and fix things. I did some research and found Meguiar's Medium Cut and Fine Cut products. I thought i would give it a shot. Note: these products are in the auto body repair section, not the wash and wax section. I used my cheap orbital buffer and took about 15 minutes on the bike, and 10 minutes on the car. They both came out looking great! I don't have pics of the car but here are after pics of the bike.

Here is the best picture I have ever gotten of the scratches. Very hard to see but if you got the light just right, you could see them.

Here is the bike after!

Nice job!

for something so small meguiars#80 would've suffice. You don't want to take off more clear coat than you have to. Start off small for example meguiars #9 swirl remover, if that doesn't work, try #80 then fine cut cleaner, and so on.

looks great!

products like these remove scratches instead of hide them (cough zaino)

The #9 was the second step I used. I honestly don't think it would have done it or it would have taken alot longer to do it. I can still see slight remnants of the scratches but only because i know where they are and i have to be only a few inches from the damage to see it.

Did you do an IPA wipedown? Meg's products have alot of fillers, and those scratches may appear again soon

That is certainly a statement that is controversial. Every company has products which use fillers to hide scratches. Some of Meg's products may use such a technique. However, Meg's polishes, in my experience do not. Of course, there are others, like you, that say that they do. I'm not saying I'm right. I'm just saying that it is kind of unfair to make such a blanket statement. By the way, I don't work for Meg's either.

IPA wipedowns are recommended for any polish because they all contain oils as lubricants, which act as fillers.

Of course you should do the wipedown. I have no problem with your advice. I just know that many people make blanket statements about "Meguair's" products having fillers and imply that Meg's products are not as good as others for that reason. Implying that Meg's products don't really remove swirls. I just don't want people here to make erroneous judgments about the effectiveness of the products. Some people may think other products are easier to use, but Meg's polishes work very well if you use them properly.

I use some of meg's products as well, but I use optimum polishes. The reason I brought up the IPA wipedown is because he said he used a cheap orbital, and not a PC so I wouldn't think he would be able to generate enough heat to properly break down the abrasives and actually do any correcting. I know meg's doesn't recommend using any of the pro line by hand, so a cheap orbital that doesn't rotate fast enough isn't going to be able to achieve much correction either. If the polishes work correctly, then an IPA wipedown will yield the same swirl free finish because the fillers don't have anything to fill

anything that 'polishes' away fine scratches is a type of compound.... or
you can use it vise versa.

Body shops routinely use medium and fine cut compounds (usually 3M from what I've seen) to polish out the scratches in body work.

Actually the only Meguiars products that have fillers are the waxes. The paint cleaners/scratch removes do not contain fillers. They do contain deminishing agents that reduce the possibility of further damaging your paint or creating more scratches, unless you're compounding or using an aggressive cut solution.
