Micro Fiber vs Cotton

I keep reading about Microfiber being the way to go for cleaning and polising but Zaino Bros says 100% cotton from USA only. Whats the deal? Some say Microfiber with scratch paint.

Whats the best thing to use on the outside of the car?

I have been using some microfiber towels, they do absorb water well, not too impressed with the way they work on the windows though, plus, if my hands are even a tad rough, they seem to cling to my fingers.

Re: Micro Fiber vs Cotton

I love microfiber towels they are the only thing I will use now. There are different types for different uses. The waffle weave type is good at absorbing water. The plush type with longer fibers is great at waxing/polishing as it picks up all of the dust from the wax. It's also good for windows as it does not leave behind a lint trail. They do require a bit more care since you can only wash them by themselves (no non-microfiber towels) since it will pick up the lint from regular towels and no heat when drying (air fluff only) since the heat will melt the fine fibers. They will not scratch the paint unless dirt particles are trapped in the towel, the towel it self is soft. Everyone I've turned on to microfiber loves them.

Re: Micro Fiber vs Cotton

I've got a ton of good microfibers... I read the "Only 100% cotton made in USA towels" thing, but I'm going to go ahead and be a bad person and use the microfibers.

Re: Micro Fiber vs Cotton

I'll say this: Microfiber sure does feel a lot softer than 100% USA Cotton

Not all Microfiber towels are created equal. You can't use the cheap kind found at sears/pep boys/ etc.

Re: Micro Fiber vs Cotton

I used Microfiber for the first time when washing my brand new G and I'm never looking back. Like everyone says, they absorb well and my experience using them on the windows has been great. I also used them to wipe down the car after claying and for applying Crystal Guard.

I highly recommend.

I now use 'em to dry dishes, clean, and wax furniture. Of course, I don't use the same ones for all those jobs

The only thing I don't like about microfiber is the way it does glass, and the fact it leaves some tiny fibers behind, LOL, almost looks like fiberglass!

Re: Micro Fiber vs Cotton

mircro fiber shouldn't leave any lint or fibers behind. did you wash it with regular towels? you should only wash micro fiber towels by themselves because they will pickup the lint from regular towels if you mix them. Windows are the area where microfiber really shines, if they are clean you will get a lint free window.

Yep, washed by themselves! What I get are tiny fibers, not visible when you ard drying, but later, if you drive into the sun you see them, took me a while to figure out where they came from. Now on the glass, I seem to get some "smudge" looking residue from them, that shows up right away, don't get it with the cotton towels.

hmmm, I don't get that. maybe you should try another brand of towels, I hear that some are not made as good as others.

Re: Micro Fiber vs Cotton

I got mine at Costco, someome else on this forum had mentioned they did too, wonder if they have noticed that too, I tend to be a bit too picky when it comes to my car, always have been!
