Thumbs down Your worst nightmare!!!

If I post pictures of the G right now, I'm pretty sure I'll get banned from the forum, so I'll refrain from doing that... Just imagine the dirtiest G you've ever seen. I'm pretty sure I'll be turned away from detailers.

Water spots from the sprinklers up the *** baked in from the sun with another fresh coating of water spots on top of that, pollen, bug crap, and so forth. No tree sap though...

Parking at the same spot is inevitable. It's either that or parking it in a theft-prone area.

So... I've decided to do something about this. I'm about to buy a car cover and some washing/buffing/whatever you detailers use, materials.

For the car cover: Looked around and saw how "California Car Covers" seem to have gotten good reviews. None of their products are 100% waterproof though. I'm looking for something thats waterproof, has UV protection, cable+lock capable and is breathable (meaning the car wont collect water and be damp under the hood). I found some "waterproof" covers, but the prices range from $40-60... Sounds like BS el-cheapo brand to me. I also am looking at a price range of under $199.

Now, for the hard part: I'm not too familiar with the process of washing/waxing.

I plan on buying a PC-7424 (saw the sale from D-image), as a good start. Seems like a noob-proof tool that you can't over-heat the paint with. Now, I understand that there are specific products made specifically FOR the PC 7424?

My price range is anywhere under $80 for the rest of the materials (soaps, wax, finishes, pads, basically EVERYTHING but a bucket, water and the PC.). Does anyone have a starter kit or something I can work with? I have no idea what to do after I buy besides the PC. I saw some kits from Detailed Image; I have no doubt that they work fine, however the price way out of my ball-park.

Any help is appreciated.

Go to Autopia.org and READ. At a minimum, do a search on 4" pads for the PC. Get some. Read some posts by Accumulator and Scottwax. You will learn. Good luck.

Your G can't possibly be any worse than this customer's Altima I detailed.

You'll love the PC once you get it, it's a great investment. There are countless polishes on the market. I've been a huge fan of Menzerna's line of polishes. The P0106FF and the Super Intensive Polishes are great to have in your arsenal. Good luck getting your G back to pristine shape.

Wow, that's rough Shane. Jobs like that seem fun when you see the level of results achieved, until you realize you have to finish the rest of the car too! Do you use a PC or Rotary?

quick question:

If I buy a PC 7242, do I need to buy the 6'' counter weight and the backplate?
Are most pads now 6.5'' or something?

I would seriously consider not buying the larger pads. I have used them for a few years but I just switched to the 4" pads. What a difference. So much easier and faster to remove swirls. If you go with the 4" pads, you will need a smaller backing plate. I don't think you need to buy a counter weight with either. I didn't.
