Rain-X Fast Wax - Okay to use as Clay Bar Lubricant?

Rain-X Fast Wax - Okay to use as Clay Bar Lubricant?

I *think* it's just a quick detailer. Anybody use it for claying? Reason I ask is it's on clearance for $3/bottle and I think I'll pick some up for claying.

If it's slippery it should work. I've used plain water before. (or was it slightly soapy water?)

hmmmmm, I have used Fast Wax before, and its white + thick.... I don't think it would make a good clay lube since it is pretty thick and won't keep the clay/surface wet. Im sure it'll work, but I think quick detailers/waxes that are more water based would work better.

Where is it on clearance for $3??? I want to pick some up.

Fuggedaboutit richie, I saw it first!! haha! Local Safeway store, might not be worth the trip from LA to Calgary, Canada to pick it up.

ONR diluted to claybar strength is WAY cheaper than $3/bottle. Or bulk Meg's Last Touch Detailer diluted to claybar strength is another great option.

The answer is categorically NO.

Claybar needs a lubricant. This stuff may "feel" like it's slippery, but that's because it's applying a coat of wax on your car.

Simply put

Clay = take stuff OFF your paint
Fastwax = put stuff ON your paint.

Completely incompatible.

For the money, you really can't beat Mother's claybar IMO. It's usually like $16 - $18 and you get the clay, AND the lube.

How much claying do you plan to do anyway? If your claying enough that you care about a small discount on lube, you're probably doing it too often. either that or you're not adding adequate protection (wax/sealant) to your car after you clay so it gets dirty again.

The mother's kit is enough to do a car twice. I wouldn't recommend claying more than once or twice a year anyway.

What kind of soap. I'm sure it works great as a lube, but I would be worried about streaks and residue.

Quick Detailers are formulated so that they provide some lubricity, but won't leave a residue like regular soap.

I suppose if you wash the car right afterwards (which alot of people do after claying anyway), you would be fine.

I have the Mother's kit, but nearly out of detailer. Diluted ONR, didn't know that one, thanks RL. Won't be claying again til spring, so I have time to consider. Thanks all.

small spray bottle, decent amount of car wash soap and water...it will slick as hell. You should be washing between claying and waxing anyway so it doesnt hurt.
