Remove Mineral Deposits?

Does anyone have a good product to use to remove mineral deposits on cars? I have a white blotch on my hood, that looks to have come from a leaky sprinkler in my parking garage. It seems to be a mineral-like deposit. No amount of wiping with soapy water, or Goo Gone has diminished this in the least.

I'm sure someone has run into something similar before. I want to get this off ASAP, as I'm afraid it may be eating through my paint. Any help is appreciated. Thanks!

I'd think CLR would remove it, but do not want to put that on my car. I have also heard vinegar may work, or some sort of compound paste. Any ideas?

Try claying the car. I had some type I water deposits on my car. I clayed it and they came off. Just make sure to re-apply the wax since claying will remove any wax you have. It is fairly simple to do - just get a quick detailer and lubricate the surface you are working on as well as the clay. Here is a website that explains it fairly well.....

Great link, thanks for the tip. The spot I have definitely appears to be the Type I spot listed there, although much worse. I'll let you know how it works out.

Well, I got the Meguire's Smooth Surface Clay kit, followed the instructions, and it doesn't seem to have done much if anything. I rubbed for 10-15 minutes, and nothing. I think I will have to take this to a professional. It looks like a water spot to me, but maybe not. Pretty sure it came from a sprinkler in the parking garage of my office building. I'm trying to see if they will reimburse me for a detail.

For hard water spots use some store bought variety vinegar 5% acidity. Will take water spots of windows and paint. Thoroughly wash the surface after to inspect if more is needed. If not dry then follow up with some wax.

Sounds like you just need to get your hood polished. find a good detailer in your area and you SHOULD be ok. Worse case scenario is you'll need to have the spots wet sanded and polished out. It's still not that big of a deal.

I'm taking it to a professional detailer soon. Luckily the insurance company for my office building will most likely cover the job (talked to one of their people a few hours ago) since it happened in their garage.

sounds good. Just make sure you check out the professional detailer. There are a lot of hacks out there. Check out some of his work. Talk to him about his process.
